Role: Systems Design Engineer
Location: Markham, ON (On-site)
Duration: 1+ Year Contract (Extension Possible)
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Design Engineer to support complex platform and data center environments. This role requires a hands-on engineer with strong debugging and troubleshooting expertise across hardware, software, firmware, and operating systems. The ideal candidate will work in a fast-paced lab/data center environment, managing issues through a ticketing system while ensuring critical infrastructure remains operational and optimized.
This position requires on-site support during the overnight shift and offers an opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams, vendors, and technology partners to resolve system-level challenges and drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, firmware, and operating system issues through a ticket management system
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for platform and infrastructure problems
- Monitor data center and lab environments for operational issues including power, networking, cooling, and system availability concerns
- Install, replace, and maintain server and platform hardware components as needed
- Debug system-level issues involving CPUs, GPUs, BIOS, BMC, firmware, and Linux operating systems
- Document findings, issue status, and resolution details clearly within support tickets
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams, external vendors, OEMs, and technology partners to drive issue resolution
- Prioritize and manage support requests based on business requirements and operational impact
- Contribute to process improvements, operational efficiencies, and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Skills & Experience:
- Experience working in data center, lab, or enterprise infrastructure environments
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across hardware and software platforms
- Experience with ticketing systems such as JIRA or similar tools
- Knowledge of system debugging methodologies including BIOS, BMC, firmware, and GPU-related technologies
- Strong Linux experience with the ability to execute scripts, analyze logs, and provide technical updates
- Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining server hardware and platform systems
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working with OEMs, vendors, and external partners to resolve technical issues
- Self-motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with system-level debug methodologies and platform bring-up activities
- Familiarity with standard hardware lab equipment and diagnostic tools
- Ability to lead investigations and drive complex issues through resolution
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience supporting GPU-enabled server platforms and high-performance computing environments
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines:
- Computer Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Related Technical Field
