Job Title: Ironworker - Field
Job Description
This role involves performing a full range of i]onwork activities on commercial, institutional, and infrastructure projects, from site mobilization and shaking out steel to erection, bolt-up, welding, and miscellaneous metals and finishes. You work across multiple sites, including out-of-town locations, and contribute to safe, efficient, and high-quality structural steel installation as part of a field-based construction team.
Responsibilities

Perform all phases of ironwork on structural steel projects, including site mobilization, shaking out steel, erection, bolt-up, and installation of miscellaneous metals and finishes.

Read and interpret blueprints, layout drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate placement, alignment, and installation of structural components.

Connect, bolt-up, and secure steel members using appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques while maintaining structural integrity and alignment.

Carry out SMAW welding and other welding tasks as required to complete structural connections and miscellaneous metal work.

Work safely at heights using appropriate fall protection equipment and techniques in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Operate Elevated Work Platforms (EWP) and other construction equipment safely and efficiently as required for project tasks.

Participate in daily team meetings to review health and safety hazards, job plans, and tasks for the day, and follow all safety protocols and procedures.

Complete required company safety orientation and any site-specific orientations before starting work on each project, and maintain communication with the safety department as needed.

Adapt to varying project stages and site conditions, adjusting tasks and priorities based on project needs and supervisor direction.

Travel to multiple sites, including out-of-town and potential camp locations, and work flexible shifts, including nights if required.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools, equipment, and materials are stored and used safely and efficiently.

Collaborate with crew members, supervisors, and safety personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and meet quality standards.
Essential Skills
-
Registered 2nd year apprentice Ironworker or higher
-
Ironworker experience on commercial, institutional, or infrastructure construction projects within the last year.

At least 5+ years of commercial construction experience, ideally with strong ironwork exposure.

Strong layout and blueprint reading experience to support accurate structural installation.

Valid Elevated Work Platform (EWP) certification.
-
Valid Fall Protection certification.
-
Valid CSTS certification.
-
Valid WHMIS certification.
-
Recent bolt-up and connector experience on structural steel projects.
-
SMAW welding experience.
-
Ability and willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights and out-of-town assignments when required.

Ability to travel to multiple job sites and work in varying project environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Progression toward Journeyperson Ironworker status, with support available to complete apprenticeship and achieve journeyperson certification.

Well-rounded ironwork experience across multiple project stages, rather than only layout or groundwork.

Comfort working on commercial, institutional, and infrastructure projects with varying site conditions and requirements.

Strong focus on safety and adherence to company and site-specific safety procedures and orientations.

Ability to work collaboratively in a crew environment and communicate effectively with supervisors, safety personnel, and team members.

Work Environment
In-town work typically runs Monday to Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., generally averaging 44 to 50 hours per week, with overtime paid after 44 hours.
Out-of-town assignments usually follow a rotation such as 15 days on and 6 days off, or 16 days on and 5 days off, with typical daily hours from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
