The City of Port Moody is seeking to fill an exciting new position of Superintendent of Facilities Operations.
The Superintendent of Facilities Operations provides leadership and direction in facility operations and maintenance. The position manages a team of skilled tradespeople and other facilities operations team members in the delivery of maintenance to City-owned Facilities including arenas and pools. The position works closely with Recreation team members in supporting programs, events and community use at Recreation Centre’s and other civic facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, coach and lead staff operating, maintaining and lifecycle planning for the Facilities Operations Division for recreation and civic facilities.
- Oversee complex building systems including aquatic filtration systems, arena refrigeration plants, HVAC systems and building automation systems.
- Support team Supervisors with the planning and coordinating of day to day and seasonal activities for the Facilities Operations team.
- Lead Facilities Operations team members including recruitment, supervision and performance management.
- Support annual capital and operating budgets for the division.
- Manage the maintenance of all City facilities and perform risk assessments to ensure public safety. Routinely update the maintenance and life cycle replacement program or equipment and machinery based on life cycle, industry/Work Safe standards and general wear and tear.
- Ensure appropriate support for all Recreation Programing activities related to facilities needs.
- Provide backfill support to the Manager of Facilities.
- Provide field coordination for emergency responses involving the Facilities Division.
- Participate in contract management and procurement processes.
- Consider energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emission reductions and sustainability in facility repair, maintenance and replacement activities.
- Ensure department safety and operating procedures are routinely reviewed and in compliance with industry standards; ensure team members are knowledgeable about safety and operating procedures and drills are routinely completed.
- Coordinate projects, prioritize tasks, troubleshot and problem solve.
- Participate in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
- Support emergency preparedness initiatives and training as required.
Qualifications:
- Two-year diploma in building maintenance, mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Minium of 3 -5 years of progressive experience leading and supervising teams in facility operations and maintenance, overseeing complex building systems and ensuring staff and public safety.
- Solid understanding of HVAC and building automation systems, arena refrigeration plants and aquatic filtration systems and related industry standards.
- Experience with contract management and procurement processes.
- Experience performing risk assessments.
- Experience with budget.
- Knowledge of recreation and civic facilities.
- Knowledge of and experience with emergency preparedness initiatives and training is an asset.
- Excellent organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
- Skilled in MS Office, work order systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to coach and mentor staff at various levels.
