Nepean Artistic Swim Club (NASC) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Recreational Coach to join our team in Ottawa for the upcoming season. If you love the water and are committed to fostering a positive, inclusive environment for athletes to develop their skills, we want to hear from you.
About the Role
The primary responsibility of the Recreational Lead Coach is to provide positive, creative leadership and mentorship to coaches and assistants, supporting their ongoing professional growth and development.
In this role, you will deliver high-quality artistic swimming instruction and training under the direction of the Head Coach. You will play a key role in creating a supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment that fosters skill development, confidence, and personal achievement.
Key Responsibilities
- Athlete Development: Encourage good sportsmanship and leadership qualities while using constructive guidance to promote swimmer commitment.
- Safety & Equipment: Ensure the safe and respectful use of club equipment and report any issues or damage immediately.
- Communication & Attendance: Attend scheduled practice times, including evenings and weekends, and proactively communicate any planned absences.
- Compliance: Adhere to the City of Ottawa Affiliated Aquatic Agreements and all NASC and Ontario Artistic Swimming (OAS) Codes of Conduct.
- Developing and overseeing the implementation of the training for the Recreational Programs, in keeping with the club mission and mandate;
- Recreational coach selection, training and evaluation
- Attending recreational practices to provide direct mentorship to coaches
- Scheduling and organizing practices, workshops and training
- Leading the formation of recreational teams
- Reporting to the Director of Recreational and Novice Programs and to the NASC Board
- Collaborating with:
- Director of the Recreational and Novice Program
- the NASC Head Coach,
- volunteer coordinators and
- Board members
- Attending monthly Executive Committee meetings as a non-voting member;
- Adhering to the clubs policies and procedures;
- Attending all recreational events during the season;
- Additional administrative duties, as needed (example: routine suit coordination, watershow planning, material ordering, etc.)
Compensation:
- Hours: Work hours vary based on programming needs and will include evenings and weekends. Coaches will generally work no more than 25 hours per week.
- 125 hours of mentoring per season,
- Pay Rate: Competitive hourly rate starting at $24.85 per hour (commensurate with experience and specific coaching duties).
- Vacation: 4% vacation pay per hour worked (increasing to 6% after five years of employment).

Qualifications and Requirements
- Certification: Must be at least Competition Development Certified or NCCP Level 3 Certified, Willing to obtain National Lifeguard Certification, Standard First Aid
- Registration: Must be a registered member in good standing with CAS and OAS.
- Screening: Must provide a valid Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and a Sterling Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC).
- Mandatory Training:
- NCCP Safe Sport Training (recertification required every 3 years).
- NCCP Make Ethical Decisions Workshop and Online Evaluation.
- NCCP Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in Aquatic Sports.
- Respect in Sport Activity Leader Training.
- Health: Compliance with NASC's athlete safety protocols, including concussion management and return to play plans
- Knowledge: Familiarity with Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) goals is an asset. Evidence of teamwork, collaboration, and initiative
- Strong administration and organizational skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Pay: $21.85-$24.85 per hour
