The Cozy Gull Hobby & Game Café is looking for friendly, enthusiastic Baristas to help create a welcoming space where guests can enjoy great drinks, cozy atmosphere, and time spent with games, hobbies, and community.
As a barista, you'll prepare coffee and specialty drinks while helping guests feel comfortable and excited to spend time in the café.

About the Role
The Barista plays an important role in the daily operation of The Cozy Gull Café by preparing high-quality beverages, supporting front-of-house service, and helping maintain a clean and welcoming café environment.
Throughout each shift, baristas help keep the beverage station organized and stocked, support bakery and retail displays, and work closely with the kitchen and café team to ensure smooth service.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a lively café setting, takes pride in providing great service, and contributes to the cozy, community-focused atmosphere of The Cozy Gull.
Key Responsibilities:
Beverage Preparation
- Prepare coffee, tea, and specialty beverages according to The Cozy Gull standards and recipes
- Maintain consistency, quality, and presentation for all drinks served
- Stay up to date on seasonal and monthly themed specials
Customer Service
- Greet customers warmly and create a welcoming environment
- Explain how the hobby/game library works and answer guest questions
- Assist guests with menu selections and recommendations
- Handle customer transactions using the café POS system
Front of House Support
- Assist with bakery displays, retail items, and light food service
- Restock cups, lids, syrups, baked goods, and supplies throughout the shift
- Maintain organized and attractive displays for drinks, baked goods, and retail items
Cleanliness & Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness of beverage stations and front-of-house areas
- Follow daily opening and closing cleaning checklists
- Ensure equipment, counters, and seating areas remain tidy and sanitary
Team Collaboration
- Communicate with kitchen staff and Hobby Helpers to ensure smooth guest experiences
- Assist with light tasks across the café during busy periods
- Support event staff during café events as needed
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous barista experience is considered a strong asset
- Serve Right Certification (required or willingness to obtain before start of employment)
- Ability to learn and follow drink recipes and preparation standards
- Comfortable using or learning a POS (Point of Sale) system for taking orders and processing payments
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and stay organized during busy service periods
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing light lifting (up to ~25 lbs)
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in food and beverage areas
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
- Interest in board games, puzzles, or hobbies considered an asset
- Food Safety / Food Handler Certification is considered an asset
