SurexCARE is seeking energetic and creative Camp Counsellors to support adults with developmental disabilities in our Summer Camp Program. The Camp Counsellor plays a vital role in leading person-centered and inclusive camp programming. This role involves planning and facilitating recreational, social, and life skills activities tailored to participants’ diverse abilities and interests. You’ll work directly with campers, families, and fellow team members to foster a welcoming and fun camp environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Create and maintain an inclusive and welcoming camp atmosphere
· Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate, and interest-based activities
· Support campers in achieving personal goals through individualized planning
· Provide assistance with personal care, mobility, and communication as needed
· Supervise campers during meals, breaks, and transitions (e.g., Wheel Trans pickup)
· Monitor campers’ emotional and behavioral well-being; implement support strategies as needed
· Collaborate with families, community partners, and fellow staff
· Accurately document camper attendance, incidents, and progress
· Arrange and participate in TTC travel for all community-based activities
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- Students in DSW, SSW, CSW, Recreation, Psychology, or related fields encouraged to apply
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
· Background in camp, recreational, or community-based settings is a strong asset
· Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team
Additional Assets
- Certification in First Aid/CPR
- Safe Management Certification (can be provided on the job)
- Medication Administration (can be provided on the job)
Requirements
This position is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Candidates must be able to meet the following requirements:
- Must be between the ages of 18-30
- Must be able to work 35 hours per week from July 1-August 31
- Must be Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*
Must be legally able to work in Canada
Pay: $17.60 per hour
