Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Swine Herdsperson to join our livestock production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting daily swine care operations, implementing feeding and breeding programs, monitoring animal health, maintaining production records, and ensuring compliance with farm safety and bio-security procedures.
This position is ideal for an individual with hands-on livestock experience who is committed to animal welfare, productivity, and maintaining high operational standards in a modern swine production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain the health and welfare of swine, including feeding, watering, and cleaning facilities
- Assist with breeding, farrowing, and piglet care as needed
- Perform heavy lifting tasks related to feed bags, supplies, and equipment handling
- Conduct routine inspections of pens to identify maintenance or sanitation needs
- Maintain detailed records of animal health, treatments, and daily activities
- Follow biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks
- Assist with general farm chores to support overall farm operations
- Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behaviour and assist with treatment protocols
- Monitor barn ventilation, temperature, airflow, and water systems to maintain optimal animal conditions
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with pigs or in a swine production environment
- Ability to follow bio-security and workplace safety procedures
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically capable of performing demanding farm duties in various environmental conditions
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in barns and agricultural production facilities
- Weekend, early morning, and holiday work may be required
- Exposure to dust, odours, noise, and varying temperatures
- Must be comfortable working around livestock and farm equipment
