JOB DESCRIPTION:
POSITION TITLE – Developmental Services Worker
TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR – Executive Director
Summary of Position - The DSW (Developmental Services Worker) performs acts requiring basic knowledge, skill, and judgment, in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care and for providing a Plan of Care that meets the recreational and leisure needs of the child. The degree of responsibility given in meeting the physical care needs of the child varies according to the complexity of the care. This responsibility is determined in collaboration with the Registered Practical Nurse.
POSITION PREREQUISITES:
Current diploma as a Developmental Services Worker from an accredited school.
- Current C.P.R. Heart Saver Certificate Level C.
- Ability to apply effective body mechanics and meet the physical demands of the position.
- Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as effective team member.
- Demonstrated flexibility and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to apply and document the care.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
A: CHILD CARE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Development Services Worker practices within an established Plan of Care and in collaboration with and under the direction of the Registered Practical Nurse
- Continuously and systematically assesses and identifies the healthcare needs of the child. The needs of the child include physical, emotional, and social needs (biopsychosocial).
- Documents the needs of the child.
- Implements the child’s care according to the established Plan of Care as directed by the usual caregiver, and the Registered Practical Nurse.
- Communicates any care needs identified to the Registered staff member.
- Implements the care plan through the provision of direct childcare.
- Determines priorities in collaboration with the Registered staff member for childcare on any given shift.
- Provides a safe, stimulating, and positive environment for the child.
- Advocates on behalf of the child and family to ensure child needs are met.
B: HEALTH TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Functions as a member of the Nursing Healthcare Team.
- Collaborates with all members of the team to provide appropriate care, meeting established child/parent centered goals.
- Communicates all pertinent information collected over the course of the child’s stay to the Registered staff member.
- Coordinates the therapeutic program of the child as previously planned by the usual caregiver and develops play therapies appropriate to the child’s physical and mental abilities.
- Ensures that sufficient food and household supplies are available for the operation of the home.
C: PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As a practitioner in a health care facility, the Developmental Services Worker functions according to standards of Ethical Behavior and Rules of Confidentiality and within the policies and practices of Kids Country Club. The DSW is responsible for remaining current within their scope of practice and for seeking help and guidance when unable to perform competently.
- Assists in providing appropriate learning experience for team members.
- Contributes to the quality of knowledge through a sharing of information.
- Assists in monitoring the quality of childcare and the overall operation of Kids Country Club by participating in Quality Assurance/Risk Management activities and participating on committees as deemed necessary for the ongoing operation of the home (i.e., Policy/Procedure etc.).
- Recognizes and reports any health and safety risks to the immediate supervisor and understands that every employee of the organization is jointly responsible for ensuring a safe, healthy, and risk-managed work environment.
- Adheres to the mission statements as developed by Parents of Technologically Dependent Children of Ontario.
- Completes duties as assigned by the Manager and/or Executive Director.
