Annual Salary: $86,592-$101,299
Position Summary:
The Plant Services Department is responsible for the short and long-term facilities renewal planning, as well as the day-to-day maintenance and repairs in the Board's buildings, to support the health and well-being of students and staff. As a member of the Plant Services team, the supervisor of Building Systems provides supervision, oversight, and coordination of mechanical and electrical maintenance activities carried out by Plant Services staff and external contractors in collaboration with the Supervisor of Facilities Services.
The incumbent prioritizes, reviews, and recommends maintenance projects for inclusion in the annual Plant Services budget through consultation with school administrators and senior Board staff, and provides technical and project leadership in working with Board staff, engineers and government agencies to deliver approved facilities renewal projects. In support of a team-orientated environment and continuous improvement, the role leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of new technologies, programs, and procedures to ensure the department remains responsive to system needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise, monitor, and evaluate the work of Board mechanical and electrical maintenance staff and external service contractors, including identifying external service needs and overseeing contracted work.

Conduct regular inspections of all facilities to assess building systems condition and prioritize maintenance, renewal, and preventative maintenance projects.

Develop, manage, and recommend preliminary annual building systems, renewal, and preventative maintenance budgets, including Curriculum Support–related building systems priorities, within approved funding.

Define project scope, system priorities, and recommendations for facilities renewal and maintenance projects, and direct and supervise consultants and engineers to deliver approved work.

Ensure compliance with applicable provincial legislation, codes, and regulatory requirements, including those related to water systems and elevating devices, and liaise with regulatory and government agencies (e.g., TSSA, Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Health) as required.

Develop and implement building system programs and standards responsive to system needs, ensuring the effective use of resources and adherence to approved budgets.

Ensure availability of materials, local suppliers, and contractors to support timely maintenance and minimize disruption to school operations.

Direct and supervise consultants to complete facilities renewal projects as approved.

Administer the applicable Collective Agreement, maintain positive working relationships with CUPE, and ensure staff are appropriately trained, qualified, and assigned in accordance with legislative and contractual requirements.

Support the development and administration of the Plant Services capital equipment and tool replacement program.

Oversee the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the energy management system, as well as work order, preventative maintenance, and asset management systems.

Ensure emergency response and lifesafety systems in Board facilities are maintained, monitored, and supported.

Provide leadership in the Board's Health and Safety program and develop new procedures as required.

Maintain effective communication with school and Board staff to ensure responsiveness to system needs.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:

Engineering Technologist (Mechanical preferred) or acceptable equivalent combination of post-secondary education and training in building systems or facilities operations.
- 5-8 years' relevant experience in building operations and maintenance in large, industrial/complex facilities.
Assets:
-
Demonstrated experience supervising and coordinating staff and contractors, including scheduling, performance oversight, and work prioritization.

Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems, maintenance practices, and facilities renewal within a large, complex organization.

Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and recommend maintenance and renewal projects, including contributing to budget planning and resource allocation.

Experience leading or coordinating projects, initiatives, or process improvements, including working with engineers, consultants, and regulatory agencies.

Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, codes, standards, Board policies, and procedures.

Effective organizational, time management, and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team oriented, unionized public sector environment.

Experience in the education or broader public sector is considered an asset.

Police Record Check satisfactory to the Board.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from worksites.
