About Us
St. Leonard’s HPE's Emergency and Transitional housing program provides at-risk and homeless youth with flexible emergency and transitional housing options, prevention support and intensive housing attainment services. Our program works with community partners to address prevent and reduce youth homelessness in Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
Purpose
From intake to discharge, youth workers will work collaboratively with their team and with community partners, to provide stability and encourage youth to reach their fullest potential in their chosen communities. Part-Time youth workers will be responsible for carrying out preparation tasks, laundry services, meal preparation, supervising shared living and eating spaces, as well as answering crisis calls, completing assessments and providing 1:1 support.
Qualifications
- A Diploma in a relevant field of study (SSW, JSW, CYC)
- Experience working with youth and/or adults experiencing homelessness
- CPIC/VSS mandatory.
- Experience facilitating programming is an asset.
- Up-to-Date Vaccination Record.
- Up-to-Date Vaccination Record including 2 COVID-19 Vaccines.
- First Aid and Standard CPR Certification.
- ASIST Certification is an asset and an on-going requirement.
- Safe Food Handler’s Certification is an asset and an on-going requirement.
- Mental Health First Aid Certification is an asset and on-going requirement.
- Knowledge of emergency and transitional housing is considered an asset.
- Training in UMAB/Safety Care is an asset and on-going requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess eligibility for services utilizing assessment tools, program mandate, and support from referral sources to inform decisions.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative attitude when working within a team.
- Demonstrate good judgement, and ability to make decisions that align with program participant safety and St. Leonard's policies/procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of community resources specific to individuals at risk or experiencing homelessness in HPE and surrounding areas.
- Carry out meal preparation tasks maintaining routines and a cleanly working environment.
- Complete regular laundry.
- Supervised shared living spaces, oversee shower usage, access to technology and meals.
- Complete intake and discharge procedures, and regular documentation (written and electronic)
- Facilitate group programming to youth receiving emergency housing services.
- Understand determine risk factors and promote the safety and dignity of service recipients.
- Demonstrate competency and professionalism sharing information among team members and community support with the consent of the program participants.
- Represent St. Leonard’s CSPRS and the SIL/YEH program in a positive and professional manner.
