The Role
Facilities, Maintenance and Operations is seeking a Construction Safety Assistant for a summer student term from June 29, 2026 – August 31, 2026. Duties may include:
- Health and Safety
- Support the OHS and Risk Officer on collaborating with external contractors on their safety programs, and assisting with project inspections
- Attend worksite safety sessions with external contractors and follow up on NWP actions items assigned
- Helping coordinate contractors or access at the Grande Prairie and Fairview Campuses in relation to projects and activities
- Assist with education and awareness for students, faculty, and staff at all levels of the organization to implement short- and long-term Health and Safety plans and processes
- Assist and attend internal worksite safety inspections
- Provide assistance to departments in drafting of safety documentation such as the hazard assessments, and internal standard operating procedures
- Support and coordinate Occupational Health and Safety projects as designated
- Coordinate approved furniture and equipment moves within departments as required including furniture assembly
- Emergency Preparedness
- Attend department meetings and present on emergency preparedness information
- Tour with and provide access to contractors to facilitate annual inspections of emergency infrastructure and equipment (e.g. fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, etc.)
- Review, update, and post emergency preparedness information
- Policies, Procedures, and Processes
- Assist with maintaining and updating existing emergency response plan and procedures
- Assist in developing and maintaining security and safety policies and protocols
- Support the Enterprise Risk team with updating information on the NWP Health and Safety SharePoint site, and NWP website
- Other Duties
- Other administrative duties as requested by the Enterprise Risk Management Unit for the day-to-day operations of the Facilities – Maintenance and Operations department
- May cover duties of the Administrative Assistant for the Facilities – Maintenance and Operations department
- Assist with the maintenance of the electronic filing system. Ensure programs are following appropriate record keeping systems for safety documentation to comply with internal/external regulations
This role is Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm. Hourly rate is $21 per hour.

The successful candidate will be a current NWP student with some related experience. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

A class 5 drivers license is required. Travel to Fairview and Beaverlodge will be required.
