Summary
We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the company’s accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and inventory accounting functions. The Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing month-end and year-end close processes, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and providing financial analysis to assist management with operational and strategic decision-making.
This role requires strong full-cycle accounting experience, attention to detail, and the ability to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting systems
Responsibilities
A. Financial Management & Reporting
- Manage full-cycle accounting activities, including month-end and year-end close processes.
- Ensure the timely preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements and supporting reports.
- Close accounting periods and maintain the integrity of accounting records.
- Prepare financial reports, analyses, and supporting documentation for the CFO, CEO, and external accountants.
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts, including payroll, employee benefits, accruals, and balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Coordinate year-end reporting, external reviews, audits, and year-end financial reporting requirements.
B. Operational and Process Improvements
- Analyze monthly business performance, prepare monthly reports for submission to the CEO and CFO, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide actionable recommendations to improve financial performance, reporting workflows, and business processes.
- Assist with branch-level technology support as required.
- Accountable for achieving financial objectives and key result areas (KRAs).
- Respond to employee inquiries related to financial processes and procedures.
- Provide financial and operational information to support business activities.
- Ensure continuity of accounting and administrative operations by coordinating and providing coverage during employee absences and vacations.
C. Cash Management
- Prepare cash position reports and support cash flow planning.
- Process and oversee cheque deposits.
- Support cash flow monitoring and working capital management activities.
- Review customer credit applications and provide recommendations to the CFO regarding credit approval and risk assessment.
- Liaise with financial institutions as required.
D. Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare and process government remittances, including GST, PST, and WCB.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax legislation, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain documentation to support regulatory filings and audits.
E. Inventory Management
- Oversee inventory accounting and related financial controls.
- Maintain inventory records within the ERP system.
- Process inventory additions, inventory builds, quantity adjustments, and cost adjustments.
- Coordinate annual inventory counts and inventory reconciliation activities.
- Investigate inventory variances and prepare related reports.
- Support inventory valuation and reporting requirements.
F. Perform other duties as assigned.
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and skill set.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation preferred.
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience managing full-cycle accounting functions.
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, account reconciliations, and audit preparation.
- Experience working with ERP systems. Familiarity with Epicor (ERP System) will be an asset.
- Experience in inventory accounting and inventory control environments is considered an asset.
