We are looking for an experienced Senior Legal Assistant or Paralegal to join our growing team. This is a full-time, in-person role suited to someone who thrives in a busy family law environment, takes initiative, and produces accurate, court-ready work with minimal supervision.
This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with lawyers in a dynamic and supportive boutique firm setting. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and experienced in British Columbia family law procedures, with the ability to manage files efficiently from start to finish.
What You’ll Do
- Draft, format, and finalize family law documents, including affidavits, notices of application, interim and final orders, consent orders, financial statements, court forms, and correspondence
- Prepare Bills of Costs, fee statements, and supporting materials for cost assessments
- Manage court filings, service of documents, and deadline tracking across active family law files
- Book and coordinate chambers appearances, Judicial Case Conferences, and other court attendances
- Liaise professionally and efficiently with clients, opposing counsel, court registries, BC FMA, and other third parties
- Conduct file intake, open and organize new matters, and manage file closing procedures
- Prepare disclosure packages, financial statements, document bundles, briefs, and exhibits for court or negotiation
- Assist with discovery processes, including organizing productions, preparing document lists, and tracking undertakings
- Draft routine correspondence and respond to client inquiries under lawyer supervision
- Maintain file organization and case management in LEAP
- Enter time dockets and assist lawyers with billing, prebills, and invoice preparation
- Process trust deposits and disbursements, and assist with trust reconciliation
- Coordinate execution of agreements, affidavits, and other documents requiring swearing or signing
- Maintain precedent libraries, update standard templates, and support general office administration as needed
- Support lawyers in managing caseloads efficiently and maintaining organized, accurate files from opening to closing
What You Bring
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, preferably in family law
- Strong knowledge of BC Supreme Court Family Rules, Provincial Court family procedures, and court forms
- Solid understanding of the Family Law Act and Divorce Act procedural requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and produce accurate work in a fast-paced environment
- A professional, composed demeanor with a client-first attitude
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365
- Experience with LEAP legal software is a strong asset
