As an integral member of BBL’s Maintenance Team, Electricians report into the Maintenance Supervisor and are responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting and repairing mill electrical equipment and associated controls in a safe and efficient manner. The Electrician will work proactively to ensure the equipment is functional and reliable, while providing quality customer service to Mill Operations. The ideal candidate is one who strives for continuous improvement, is committed to safe work practices, has advanced electrical problem solving skills and proactive maintenance planning abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working with the team to conduct job risk assessments and create safe work plans in advance of the work being performed;
- Providing accurate diagnosis of electrical defects and deficiencies on mill equipment, including but not limited to wiring, receptacles, switch gear, conduits, feeders, fibre optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators, reactors, electrical motors, generators, alternators, industrial storage batteries and both hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems;
- Conducting preventative maintenance (inspections, adjustments and overhauls) on mill equipment and building documentation to support plan improvements;
- Providing timely responses to critical equipment breakdown;
- Executing efficient and quality electrical repairs and installations to equipment, as per trade code and industry design specifications;
- Conducting corrective maintenance (repairs & replacements) on electrical components, as needed;
- Reporting hazard observations, near misses and incidents and assisting with investigations and follow up work;
- Participating in safety meetings, endeavouring to provide meaningful contributions; and
- Ensuring housekeeping standards are maintained according to company standards.
Requirements:
- Ability to work 7 days on/ 7 days off rotation schedule;
- Legally permitted to work in Canada;
- Strong oral and writing communications skills in English;
- Registered as an Electrician Apprentice in the province of Alberta;
- Minimum of two years’ experience in an industrial setting;
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking ability;
- Solid experience testing electrical, electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance;
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and schematics to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations;
- Sound knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code CSA Z462, Workplace Electrical Safety CSA Z463 and Maintenance of Electrical Systems;
- Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
- Have the ability to manage multiple priorities, while maintaining a strong attention to detail;
- Registered as an Electrician Apprentice in the province of Alberta; and
- Ability to be productive without continuous supervision.
- Beneficial if you have:
- Previous Sawmill/ Manufacturing Electrical experience.
- Current and Valid First Aid and CPR/AED certification, is considered an asset.
