Bosun , Offshore Factory Freezer Vessel

We are currently recruiting for a Bosun to join the deck leadership team aboard one of our offshore groundfish vessels. Reporting to the Captain and First Mate, the Bosun leads the deck crew and plays a key role in ensuring safe, efficient fishing operations and the maintenance of the vessel and its equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the deck crew, providing direction and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and oversee deck operations, including the deployment, retrieval, maintenance, and repair of fishing gear, as well as the safe operation of deck machinery and equipment.
- Operate and oversee the use of winches, cranes, and other deck equipment during fishing, mooring, anchoring, cargo handling, and vessel operations.
- Maintain the cleanliness, integrity, and operational readiness of the vessel's decks, fishing equipment, and associated machinery through routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring crew compliance with safe work practices, maintaining personal protective equipment, participating in emergency drills, and assisting with emergency response activities.
- Inspect and maintain safety and emergency equipment, reporting deficiencies and ensuring equipment is operational and ready for use.
- Support onboard training and mentor deck crew in safe work practices, fishing operations, emergency procedures, and proper equipment use.
- Report incidents, hazards, and near misses, assisting with investigations and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Assist with the receipt, inventory, storage, and organization of fishing gear, vessel supplies, groceries, and operational equipment.
- Participate in a trip-on/trip-off rotation and work collaboratively with the opposite rotation while in port to ensure operational continuity.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Captain or senior officers.
Qualifications:
- Valid Bridge Watch Certificate.
- Valid Transport Canada Seafarer's Medical Certificate, Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certification (minimum A1 or DVS), a valid Passport, and all other certifications required for the position.
- Fishing Master's Class IV Certificate of Competency or higher is considered an asset.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in the commercial fishing industry, preferably aboard an offshore fishing vessel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of factory freezer trawler operations, fishing gear, deck machinery, mooring and anchoring procedures, and safe deck operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to supervise and mentor deck crew while promoting a safe and productive work environment.
- Working knowledge of Transport Canada regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, and company Safety Management Systems.
- Commitment to safety, professionalism, and responsible fishing practices.
