About Us
Yarl Metal Fabrications Inc. is a custom sheet metal fabrication company based in Richmond Hill, Ontario. With approximately 55 employees and an 80,000 sq ft manufacturing facility, we produce precision architectural metalwork for general contractors, architects, and curtainwall installers across North America. We are a fast-moving, hands-on environment where every person counts and the work is real.
About the Role
We are hiring our first dedicated HR Generalist to run day-to-day HR and health & safety administration at Yarl Metal. You will report directly to the General Manager and work closely with our supervisors, our external health & safety provider, and our on-site ISO 45001 consultant.
This is a hands-on execution role. You will spend most of your time getting things done — running the HR administration, keeping our safety program on track, coordinating training, running culture events, and making sure the small things that matter to our people don't fall through the cracks.
What You'll Do
Human Resources
- Run full-cycle recruitment and onboarding for open positions
- Administer and maintain HR policies in line with Ontario ESA and applicable legislation
- Handle day-to-day employee relations matters as the first point of contact
- Manage HR4 (our HRIS), including employee records, incentive plan administration, and performance management tracking
- Run our performance management cycle — coordinating goal-setting, check-ins, and annual reviews
- Coordinate payroll inputs including timecards, attendance, status changes, and leave tracking with finance
- Administer benefits enrollment, changes, and renewals with our benefits provider
Health and Safety
- Administer Yarl Metal's existing health and safety program, developed and supported by our external H&S provider
- Serve as Yarl Metal's primary point of contact for our ISO 45001 auditor and manage audit preparation with support from our on-site consultant
- Coordinate the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), including meeting scheduling, recordkeeping, and follow-up on corrective actions
- Maintain WHMIS, incident reports, inspection records, and MOL compliance documentation
- Administer WSIB claims and coordinate return-to-work in collaboration with supervisors
- Coordinate delivery of safety orientations and mandatory safety training
Note: Our health and safety program is fully developed and supported by an external provider. An on-site ISO 45001 consultant will be present one day per week for your first five months, providing dedicated support during your transition and audit preparation.
Training Coordination
- Maintain the training records system — tracking mandatory certifications, equipment sign-offs, and role-specific training across all departments
- Coordinate scheduling and logistics for internal and external training programs
- Ensure compliance with legislated training requirements including WHMIS, working at heights, and equipment-specific certifications
- Assist with onboarding materials and training documentation as needed
- Assist with ISO 9001 training documentation and audit preparation as needed
Culture and Employee Experience
- Plan and run our monthly culture programming — birthday lunches, seasonal events, summer games, recognition activities
- Be present on the shop floor and in the office — a familiar, approachable face for our team
- Help make Yarl Metal a place people are proud to work
What We Are Looking For
Required
- 3-5 years of HR generalist experience
- Working knowledge of Ontario ESA, OHSA, and WSIB
- Experience supporting a health and safety program — JHSC participation, incident administration, or WSIB claims handling
- Comfort working in or supporting a manufacturing, trades, or industrial environment
- Comfort using technology and AI tools to work efficiently — ATS platforms, HRIS systems, AI-assisted screening or scheduling
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Full-time on-site availability in Richmond Hill, Ontario
Nice to Have
- CHRP designation or active candidacy
- JHSC certification (Part 1 and 2)
- Exposure to ISO 45001, ISO 9001, or other management system audits
- Payroll administration experience (ADP Workforce Now or similar)
- Experience in warehouse, industrial, or manufacturing environments
Who You Are
- You like getting things done. You are energized by variety and moving between tasks — a JHSC agenda in the morning, a training tracker after lunch, a birthday event in the afternoon
- You are most effective on the floor, not behind a closed door. You build trust by being present and approachable
- You are organized, detail-oriented, and reliable. You do not need to be chased on deadlines
- You are comfortable using AI and technology to work faster and smarter
- You are direct, fair, and easy to work with
What We Offer
- A hands-on role where you own the day-to-day HR administration for a close-knit team
- Direct access to the General Manager
- A culture that values people — monthly events, recognition programs, and a real commitment to making work feel like more than just work
- Dedicated onboarding support including a weekly on-site ISO 45001 consultant for your first five months
- Three weeks vacation to start
- Benefits package after probationary period

Application question(s):
- Tell us about a workplace where you felt genuinely happy to come to work. What made it feel that way?
- Tell us about a specific way you have used AI or automation to save time or improve an HR process. What tool did you use, what did you do, and what changed as a result?
- Our HR person needs to be equally comfortable running a JHSC meeting, sending an offer letter, planning a birthday lunch, and managing a WSIB claim — often all in the same week. Which of those feels most natural to you, and which would stretch you the most? Be honest.
