Western Varieties Wholesale is a proudly Indigenous-owned company located in Edmonton, Alberta. We operate a 20,000 sq. ft. warehouse with approximately 7,500 SKUs and are looking for an experienced Retail Manager to lead our storefront operations.
We are seeking a reliable and energetic Retail Manager to join our team. As Retail Manager, you will play a vital role in our daily operations, ensuring the store is prepared for success, providing exceptional service to our customers, while supporting retail floor staff, ownership and various departments in maintaining a welcoming + organized environment. Our ideal candidate will know how to balance being friendly and approachable while also ensuring staff accomplish goals, will be self-motivated, and be capable of seeing tasks through to completion. We have an immediate opening for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Opening and closing the store according to established procedures.
- Providing top-tier customer service and assisting shoppers with product selection.
- Managing point-of-sale (POS) transactions and maintaining cash drawer accuracy.
- Ensuring the sales floor is clean, organized, well-stocked and displays are changed at reasonable intervals to create visual appeal for new and returning customers.
- Ensuring retail floor staff regularly restock items from the warehouse.
- Training and scheduling of retail floor staff.
- Managing 5-10 retail staff members.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years experience in a retail manager position or customer service.
- Strong to proficient knowledge of Excel, particularly VLOOKUP.
- A consistent track record of punctuality and dependability.
- Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including a minimum of 3 Saturday’s/month.
Additional Skills:
We have a deep appreciation for Indigenous art and culture! While not required, we are particularly interested in candidates who possess the following:
- Indigenous Artistry: Experience with beading and/or creating Indigenous art.
- Language Skills: Fluent in speaking Cree.
- Culture: Understanding of various Indigenous cultures, medicine and traditional practices, with an emphasis on Cree and Metis.
What We Offer
- Competitive wage ($20-$23/hr based on experience).
- Full-time 40 hours/week, with consistent scheduling generally between 8:45am-5:30pm.
