As a Project Controls and Claims Advisor within the Legal Affairs Department, you will support project teams in reviewing and interpreting contracts, analyzing changes and project conditions, and preparing documentation related to disputes and claims. You will be involved in both strategic and operational matters, working closely with site teams, contract managers, and internal stakeholders.
Depending on the needs of each file, your contribution will focus on one or both of the following areas:
Strategic Stream – Direct Support During Project Execution
- Support project teams in reviewing contracts and interpreting applicable contractual provisions.
- Contribute to claims development strategies and to the company’s positioning in dispute-related matters.
- Assist in drafting letters, contractual positions, and strategic correspondence.
- Analyze changes to contract conditions, execution modifications, and their impact on project delivery.
- Support contract managers in making critical decisions related to contractual issues and schedule management.
- Leverage a strong understanding of construction project execution to support project teams in addressing contractual and operational challenges.
Claims Preparation Stream – Direct Support in Claims Management
- Gather and organize information from project files, communications, and contractual documentation.
- Analyze and untangle complex information to establish clear sequences of events, causes, and consequences.
- Contribute to the development of the quantum portion of claims by organizing costs, financial impacts, and supporting documentation.
- Participate in schedule analysis to document delays, assess impacts, and establish causal links between events and resulting consequences.
This role could be for you if you have
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Construction, Mechanical, or a related field), Law, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the construction industry, ideally in project management, contract management, cost control, or project support.
- Strong understanding of project execution and construction site operations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills in both French and English.
- Comfortable reviewing and interpreting contracts, with a strong interest in legal and commercial issues related to construction projects.
- Knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) concepts and familiarity with scheduling software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and document management tools.
- Strong attention to detail, autonomy, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
Assets
- Knowledge of delay analysis methodologies.
- Experience in construction cost control.
- Understanding of dispute resolution mechanisms in Canada and Quebec, including mediation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods.
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools and their application in a professional environment.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or an equivalent designation.
