Machine Learning Contractor – Raman Spectroscopy
Location: Woodbridge, Ontario — On-site
Contract: One month
Scatr Inc. is seeking an experienced machine learning contractor for a focused, one-month, on-site project involving the training, evaluation and software integration of machine learning models using Raman spectroscopy data.
The contractor will work directly with our technical team at our Woodbridge facility to improve the classification of Raman spectra from pure substances and chemical mixtures. The proprietary spectral dataset has already been processed, structured and labelled and is ready for model training. The primary focus of this contract will be model development, validation, optimization and integration—not data collection or preprocessing.
Responsibilities
- Review the prepared training dataset and existing model architecture
- Train and compare suitable machine learning models
- Design appropriate training, validation and test procedures
- Evaluate model performance using clearly defined metrics
- Identify and address overfitting, class imbalance and potential data leakage
- Optimize the selected model for integration into Scatr’s existing software
- Work within Scatr’s Python- and JavaScript-based codebase
- Document the methodology, results, limitations and recommended next steps
- Deliver clean, reproducible and well-commented code
Required qualifications
- Demonstrated experience developing and training machine learning models
- Strong proficiency in both Python and JavaScript
- Experience with Python machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Experience integrating trained models into software applications
- Experience working with high-dimensional numerical, signal, sensor or spectroscopy data
- Strong understanding of model validation, overfitting and experimental design
- Ability to work on-site in Woodbridge, Ontario for the duration of the contract
- Ability to begin and complete the project within approximately four weeks
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Raman, infrared, mass spectrometry or other analytical chemistry data
- Experience with chemometrics, spectral classification or multivariate analysis
- Familiarity with PCA, PLS-DA, SVMs, gradient boosting and neural-network approaches
- Experience with Node.js or browser-based JavaScript applications
- Background in machine learning, data science, computer science, engineering, physics, chemistry or a related field
- Experience deploying machine learning models into production software
This is a short-term, hands-on contract with a clearly defined technical objective. The successful candidate will be required to sign confidentiality and intellectual-property agreements. All project code, trained models and work product will belong to Scatr Inc.
To apply, please send your résumé or LinkedIn profile, availability, expected contract rate and examples of relevant machine learning, Python, JavaScript or spectroscopy projects.
