The Fort McMurray Public Schools is seeking caring and enthusiastic teachers who can enhance a safe, structured environment with consistent routines. This program offers educators the opportunity to work in a strong team environment and provide inclusive learning opportunities for students to reach their full potential.
The Knowledge and Employability curriculum (K&E) is designed for students identified with a learning disability and require academic support to reach current grade level achievement (among other requirements). The curriculum provides an opportunity for students to experience a tiered and/or modified academic program in the core subject areas of Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. The goal is to enhance student skills to be able to reintegrate into mainstream courses and to meet Alberta Education Diploma requirements. Each student meeting the criteria for this program is provided an Individualized Program Plan (IPP). Students continue to be included in other classes and/or optional courses.
Requirements: Bachelor of Education with specialization in Special Education. Experience with High Needs Students an Asset.
Desired Qualifications/Skills:
- Experience with students with special needs, an asset.
- Develop goals and objectives for multi-age classrooms for students with varying physical and emotional conditions.
- Monitoring behavior patterns of children and applying appropriate interventions; data tracking for progress monitoring is required.
- An ability to differentiate curriculum for individualized educational needs in a framework of the K&E curricular outcomes.
- An ability to develop, implement and monitor IPPs for students with mild-moderate learning disabilities that provides sequential learning and provide opportunities to integrate with same-age peers in different grades.
- Other goals for students include increasing independence, enhancing self-esteem and improving social/interpersonal skills.
- Effective organizational skills and classroom management - Supervision and planning for Educational Assistants.
- An ability and commitment to work as a member of a team in a collaborative work environment with staff and parents.
- A commitment to the Assessment for Learning model.
- Safe Management Group training or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
