About the Role:
The Regulatory and Compliance Specialist will report directly to the Quality Compliance Director, and you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with industry regulations and maintaining high standards of product quality, included reviewing and interpreting regulations, developing, and implementing quality assurance processes, conducting audits to identify areas for improvement, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to uphold regulatory standards. With your attention to detail and expertise in navigating regulatory frameworks, you'll contribute to the organization's reputation for excellence and its commitment to delivering safe and compliant products.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and maintain compliance policies and procedures in line with applicable laws, CFIA/FDA regulations, and industry standards
· Familiar with labelling requirements and regulations for Canada and USA and be able to work in Genesis and other regulatory portals
· Be able to work with third party contractors offshore and help with labelling guidance for products imported for Canada and USA
· Provide food safety and quality direction to Production, R&D, Purchasing, Shipping & Receiving, Maintenance, Planning, Sanitation, and other departments
· Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance
· Ensure HACCP and food safety management systems
· Develop and maintain incoming specifications and online profiling spread sheets to track and trend quality parameters
· Ensure regulatory compliance with CFIA, SQF and Customer requirements are met and maintained
· Able to assist in plant trials, help build quality guidelines and production manuals
· Work with corporate team to develop and update SOP’s and policies for areas of responsibility to optimize quality, sanitation, operations &/or other relevant departments as required.
· Maintain accurate records and documentation related to compliance activities
· Act as a back fill only if required for:
o Execution pre-operational inspections and post-sanitation checks and conduct daily quality assurance verification tasks
o Responsible for providing Food & Safety and GMP policy training to the new hires
o Monitor GMP compliance through hands-on monitoring, inspection, swabbing, environmental monitoring, and coaching
· Maintain and administer plant sanitation records to monitor performance and improve sanitation practices
· Perform water/air testing and determine action plan if deviation occurs
· Maintain Pest Control and Environmental Monitor program
· Routinely maintain and update food safety documentation
· Assist in the preparation for food safety audits (includes annual third-party GFSI audit, internal audits, customer 2nd party audits, supplier audits)
· Regularly reviewing and updating F&S training and delivering up to date relevant training to the employees to ensure quality systems, HACCP and Food Safety program are implemented effectively
· Ensuring all training, SOPs and record reviews are completed as per schedule
· Identify gaps and continuous improvement opportunities in best practices
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· 3+ years working in regulatory compliance and quality assurance
· Strong Passion and understanding changes to existing regulatory requirements
· Be able to understand, interpret regulations and ensure that the labels on products produced at Kings Pastry are compliant in the country of sale
· Strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations, including FDA, CFIA and be able to take on the lead role with the team to ensure that the change is communicated effectively to the relevant stakeholders
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
· Ability to stay current on regulatory requirements and assess their impact on the organization.
· Experience in conducting compliance risk assessments and implementing controls to mitigate identified risks
· Experience working in Product Development systems and Genesis (specifically)
· Organized with time management, team players are able to collaborate and work independently
· Ability to adapt and be a quick learner in a fast-paced environment
