We are currently inviting applications from suitably experienced candidates to serve as our Project Accountant. This role is a key part of our project delivery team, providing financial oversight and support across multiple construction projects. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers and the finance team to ensure accurate job cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting throughout the lifecycle of each project. We are looking for a detail-oriented, proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and likes working independently while collaborating effectively with project and operations teams.
The position is based in Kingston, Ontario, and is full-time (41 hours per week) with competitive salary, retirement and health benefits, and annual leave (based on experience).
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and monitor project financials, including job cost tracking, budget alignment, and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support Project Managers with financial reporting, cost analysis, and ongoing project review.
- Issue and manage purchase orders and subcontract commitments, ensuring accurate tracking of contractual obligations and project costs.
- Prepare and process project billings, ensuring accuracy and alignment with contract terms, approved changes, and project progress.
- Track and manage change orders and integrate into project financial records.
- Monitor subcontractor invoicing and payments, ensuring consistency with project progress, contract requirements, and compliance with the Construction Act.
- Provide backup support for general accounting functions.
- Contribute to internal process improvements and support internal reporting needs for leadership and departmental decision-making.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in accounting, demonstrable functional understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices.
- 3-5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in construction (or other non-retail business) is preferred.
- Familiarity with tax laws and solid knowledge of accounting standards.
- Ability to work independently, with limited supervision.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines (highly organized).
- Excellent communication skills, analytical and critical thinking.
- Proficient with MS Office 365 programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with Maestro, CMiC or similar project-based accounting software is an asset.

In line with pay transparency requirements, Bourgon Construction has provided an expected salary range for this position. Where a candidate falls within this range will depend on their experience, qualifications, location, and alignment with our internal compensation structure.
