Flooring Sales Consultant —
Role Summary
The Flooring Sales Consultant is responsible for driving retail sales by guiding customers through product selection, design decisions, measurement, quoting, and order execution. The role combines consultative selling, practical design input, and disciplined use of systems such as RFMS and a CRM platform.
Core Responsibilities
1. Sales & Customer Management
- Engage walk-in, phone, and online customers in a professional and timely manner
- Qualify customer needs (scope, budget, timeline, style preferences)
- Lead customers through the full sales cycle from first contact to close
- Present solutions confidently and ask for the sale
- Maintain consistent follow-up on all quotes and opportunities using CRM
- Generate repeat and referral business through strong customer experience
2. Product Knowledge & Design Consultation
Develop strong working knowledge of:
- Carpet, hardwood, vinyl, laminate, tile, and area rugs
Assist customers with:
- Colour coordination, textures, and finishes
- Layout direction and transitions between surfaces
- Practical considerations (durability, maintenance, lifestyle fit)
- Provide design guidance that balances aesthetics, performance, and budget
- Stay current on product trends and new offerings
3. Measuring & Estimating
- Conduct accurate site measurements when required
- Interpret layouts, stairs, and transitions correctly
- Identify potential complexities that impact scope or cost
- Calculate material quantities, including appropriate waste factors
4. Quoting & Order Entry (RFMS)
- Prepare clear, accurate quotes using RFMS
- Ensure pricing aligns with company margin expectations
- Convert quotes into sales orders and purchase orders
- Maintain organized and complete job documentation
- Track order status and ensure smooth progression from sale to completion
5. CRM & Pipeline Management
- Record all customer interactions, quotes, and follow-ups in CRM
- Maintain an active and organized sales pipeline
- Follow up on all open quotes within defined timelines
- Prioritize high-probability opportunities
- Continuously work to improve conversion rates
6. Showroom Standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional showroom environment
- Ensure samples are properly displayed and returned after use
- Remove or flag discontinued products
- Assist with merchandising updates and promotional displays
- Ensure pricing and product information is accurate and visible
7. Administrative & Operational Duties
- Process deposits and finalize required documentation
- Review orders for completeness and accuracy before submission
- Maintain awareness of stock vs. special-order products
- Participate in sales meetings, training, and process improvements
- Contribute to a disciplined, team-oriented sales culture
