Shift: Overnight / Early Morning (Approx. 2:30 AM start time)
Overview
We are seeking a reliable, independent contractor to take on a dedicated rural motor delivery route. This is a straightforward, solo job delivering newspapers directly to rural roadside boxes from your own personal vehicle.
This is a 365-day-a-year operation. Because this is an independent contract position, you are entirely responsible for ensuring the route is covered every single scheduled day, including holidays. If you cannot work, you must find and train your own backup coverage.
Non-Negotiable Requirements (Do Not Apply If You Do Not Meet All of These)
- Language: Must be fully fluent in English (written and verbal) to follow precise route sheets and communicate updates.
- Schedule: Must be able to work overnight. Shifts start strictly around 2:30 AM.
- Coverage Responsibility: Because this route runs 365 days a year, you are personally responsible for finding and providing your own backup driver/coverage if you need a day off, get sick, or have an emergency.
- Vehicle: You must own and drive a highly reliable, fuel-efficient personal vehicle.
- License & Insurance: Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G2 or G) with a clean driving record and active vehicle insurance.
- Physical Ability: Must be comfortable driving in all weather conditions (rain, snow, fog) and doing repetitive arm movements to place papers in roadside boxes.
Key Responsibilities
- Arrive on time at the designated pickup point in the early morning hours.
- Organize and load newspapers into your vehicle.
- Safely navigate and complete the assigned rural motor route using a provided, step-by-step route sheet.
- Ensure every paper is delivered dry, intact, and in the correct mailbox/box before the morning deadline.
- Maintain a backup plan: Ensure you have a reliable backup person trained and ready to run the route if you are unavailable.
