ABOUT THE POSITION
The Health & Safety Coordinator supports safe operations at company facilities and field locations. The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining health and safety programs, supporting regulatory compliance, conducting training and inspections, investigating incidents, and promoting a proactive safety culture.
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Coordinator will serve as the primary safety resource for the manufacturing facilities of Sanderson Concrete and Fraserway Prekast.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement, maintain, and continuously improve company health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Support and maintain COR certification, including audits, documentation, and corrective actions.
- Monitor compliance with company requirements, the Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, and other applicable legislation.
- Conduct workplace, plant, vehicle, equipment, and job-site inspections.
- Identify hazards, recommend corrective measures, and follow up to ensure deficiencies are addressed.
- Prepare and review hazard assessments, safe work procedures, safety plans, and emergency procedures.
- Coordinate safety orientations, toolbox meetings, refresher training, and other required employee training.
- Maintain safety, training, inspection, and certification records.
- Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and safety concerns, and recommend preventative measures.
- Complete and maintain required internal and external incident reporting.
- Support Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings and activities.
- Assist with claims management, modified duties, and return-to-work planning, as required.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with company safety requirements.
- Maintain professional working relationships with employees, management, customers, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Stay current on legislative and industry changes and recommend updates to company practices.
- Intervene where unsafe work or an immediate hazard is identified.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- CSO or NCSO designation is required.
- Advanced First Aid certification is required.
- Minimum four years of occupational health and safety experience.
- Ready-mix concrete, construction, transportation, manufacturing, or other safety-sensitive industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of British Columbia occupational health and safety legislation and COR requirements.
- Experience with workplace inspections, incident investigations, hazard assessments, and safety training.
- Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic reporting systems.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Valid provincial driver’s licence and acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Ability to travel regularly between facilities and job sites.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a mobile position involving regular travel to plants, yards, customer locations, and active job sites.
A Company vehicle will be provided for work-related duties during scheduled working hours. The vehicle will remain at the Company’s premises when not in use.
The role includes indoor and outdoor work, exposure to industrial and construction environments, and the use of required personal protective equipment. Occasional attendance outside normal working hours may be required.
Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
