Familia Fine Foods is seeking a skilled and passionate First Cook with fine dining experience to join our kitchen team. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced, high-standards environment — ideal for a culinary professional with deep roots in traditional Colombian and Latin American cooking. Knowledge of Colombian cuisine is not just an asset — it is central to this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and present authentic traditional Colombian dishes with consistency and cultural integrity
- Demonstrate expertise in Latin American culinary techniques and regional flavour profiles
- Deliver high-quality meals with customer satisfaction as the guiding priority
- Set up and oversee buffet service when required
- Identify and resolve kitchen issues promptly and professionally
- Supervise kitchen staff and coordinate helpers during service
- Manage stock levels and submit supply requests as needed
- Assist with menu creation, drawing on knowledge of Colombian and Latin American cuisine
- Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances
- Estimate food requirements and costs
- Inspect kitchen and food service areas; enforce hygiene and food safety standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of professional kitchen experience in Colombian Food
- Demonstrated experience preparing dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances
- Commercial food preparation experience required
Education
- High School Diploma
- Vocational Certificate as a Cook is considered an asset
Culinary Knowledge – Essential
- Proven, hands-on experience cooking Colombian cuisine is a core requirement of this role
- Candidates must demonstrate familiarity with traditional dishes, ingredients, preparation methods, and regional variations of Colombian and broader Latin American cooking
Additional Skills
- Strong communication skills in Spanish
- In-depth knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations (Ontario standards)
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced fine dining environment
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
