Deconstructors Demolition is looking for an experienced Abatement Supervisor to join our Nanaimo team in a permanent full-time position.
This role is ideal for someone who is confident leading regulated abatement work, understands containment and decontamination requirements, and can help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company procedures and WorkSafeBC requirements.
The Abatement Supervisor will support day-to-day site coordination, crew direction, safety compliance, project documentation, and communication with management. The right candidate will be organized, safety-focused, reliable, and able to lead by example in the field.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Abatement Supervisor, your duties may include:
- Supervising and supporting asbestos abatement activities on active project sites.
- Leading crew members with clear direction, expectations, and safety oversight.
- Setting up, maintaining, and dismantling containments, barriers, signage, and decontamination areas.
- Ensuring proper PPE, respiratory protection, waste handling, and decontamination procedures are followed.
- Monitoring site conditions, containment integrity, negative air, cleanliness, and compliance requirements.
- Coordinating daily site tasks with foremen, project managers, consultants, subcontractors, and crew members.
- Completing daily reports, project logs, photos, safety paperwork, and progress updates.
- Following and using the company’s internal OS system for reporting, project logs, site updates, photos, safety documentation, and communication with management.
- Identifying and reporting hazards, deficiencies, scope changes, delays, or site conditions that may affect safety or project completion.
- Supporting quality control and ensuring work areas are kept clean, organized, and compliant.
- Assisting with hands-on abatement work, demolition, deconstruction, waste handling, and general site tasks as required.
- Helping maintain a professional, productive, and safety-focused jobsite culture.
What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will have:
- Valid WorkSafeBC Level 3 Asbestos Abatement certification.
- Previous experience supervising or leading asbestos abatement work.
- Strong understanding of containment setup, PPE, respiratory protection, decontamination, waste handling, and site safety requirements.
- Ability to lead crews safely and efficiently while maintaining compliance.
- Strong communication skills with workers, supervisors, project managers, consultants, and clients.
- Strong attention to detail, especially with safety procedures and documentation.
- Comfort using digital systems for daily logs, photos, reporting, and project communication.
- Willingness to follow company procedures and keep project information updated through the company’s OS system.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s licence.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work and work in PPE when required.
- Dependable attendance, professionalism, and a safety-first attitude.
