Staff Accountant
Job Description
Almadina Charter School invites applications for a full-time Staff Accountant. This position is located at the board office in Calgary, Alberta.
The Accountant reports directly to the Secretary Treasurer. The Accountant will support the corporate administrative and financial management responsibility of the Secretary Treasurer. The accountant is responsible for the Cash Management, Accounts Receivable /Payable and all transactions to the general ledger.
Role & Responsibilities
· Cash Receipts Journal (i.e. school fees cash/online. Field trip fees ….etc.).
· Accounts Payable Journal as needed
· Reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts (i.e. capital assets, bank, credit cards, deferred revenue, School Generated Fund…etc.)
· Prepare / process online banking payments – (i.e. Enmax, Shaw, CRA, ATA and ATRF…etc.).
· Prepare for approval, by the secretary treasurer, accounts payable cheques, direct payments for approved venders, contractors and contracts.
· Ensure internal control procedures for all banking transactions/ vendor purchases are maintained.
· Oversight for the day-to-day activities and processes for banking, accounts receivables, accounts payable, payroll, capital assets and general accounting.
· Review/Post the monthly payroll to ensure accuracy, application of payroll contract commitments and payroll contract changes.
· Responsible for the general ledger accounting and review of JE coding.
· Provide support to the secretary treasurer in the application of GAAP and the administration of the financial and operational management systems.
· Assist with the preparation of year-end working papers for external auditors
· Assist in the preparation of School annual budget.
· Prepare and verify returns for external bodies ( i.e. GST , Stats Canada …etc.) or other reports as needed
· Maintain financial accounting files ensuring they are correct and that all account system records are reconciled.
Skills and Qualifications
· Post-secondary degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field
· 2+ years’ experience of full cycle accounting
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel / Word, QuickBooks, and other accounting software
· Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills
· Knowledge of GAAP and Public Sector Accounting
· Prior experience in education is an asset
· Experience with unionized staff is an asset
Annual salary range is depending on qualifications and experience, the position is eligible for school health and dental benefits.
