Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Portfolio Manager role based in Calgary, AB. The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for managing discretionary client investment portfolios, aligning asset allocation and investment selection with client objectives, risk profiles, and firm guidelines.
Day-to-day tasks include:
- Engaging with existing and prospective clients to understand their financial goals, return expectations, and risk tolerance in order to construct and manage portfolios that are suitable to their individual needs.
- Assisting in the creation and communication of marketing materials and client presentations, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and a high standard of professional presentation.
- Assist in the construction and ongoing monitoring of our model portfolios across equities, alternative strategies and fixed income with the objective of continuous improvement and optimization.
- Preparing and presenting portfolio reviews, collaborating with the wealth management team on financial and estate planning considerations, and contributing to investment committee discussions.
- The Portfolio Manager will maintain strong client relationships through regular communication, clear reporting, and a focus on long-term outcomes.
Qualifications
- One to five years of relevant retail discretionary portfolio management or investment management experience.
- Solid foundation in finance, including capital markets, asset allocation, and risk management concepts.
- Demonstrated experience in portfolio management and investments, with a track record of managing diversified portfolios.
- Experience with trading, including order execution, best execution practices, and familiarity with trading platforms.
- Relevant professional designation (e.g., CFA, CIM) or progress toward one is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, economics, business, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to a range of clients.
- High ethical standards, sound judgment, and a client-first mindset aligned with a fiduciary duty.
- Proficiency with portfolio management systems, research tools, and Excel; experience with performance attribution is an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a small, high-performing team and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in the French language would be a valuable asset.
- Registration, or eligibility for registration, as a Portfolio Manager (Advising Representative) with Canadian securities regulators would be a strong asset.
- Familiarity with client relationship management (CRM) and portfolio management systems.
