The Career and Employment Advisor is responsible for delivering comprehensive career development and employment support services across Elevate Aviation's Aviation Readiness Training (ART) programs. This role provides one-on-one career coaching, facilitates employability and career development workshops, supports learners in overcoming barriers to employment, and builds strong relationships with employers and industry partners to create meaningful employment opportunities.
Working closely with the Senior Manager, Aviation Training Programs and program staff, the Career and Employment Advisor connects learners with meaningful employment opportunities by building and maintaining strategic relationships with employers, industry partners, educational institutions, Indigenous organizations, and community agencies. The advisor supports learners from intake through employment by providing career planning, job search support, graduate follow-up, career coaching, and case management, while executing employer engagement and communication activities to position Elevate Aviation as a trusted talent partner. By monitoring labour market trends, evaluating learner outcomes, maintaining accurate records, and analyzing employment data, the advisor contributes to the continuous improvement of career services and employment pathways to ensure learners are prepared for long-term success in the aviation industry.
Key Responsibilities
As the Career and Employment Advisor your responsibilities will include:
- Provide individualized career coaching and employment support to learners throughout their learning and following program completion, ensuring learners develop the employment readiness, skills, confidence, and professional networks needed to succeed in aviation careers
- Collaborate with Facilitators to develop, deliver, and continuously improve essential skills, employability skills, career development, and personal development workshops across Aviation Readiness Training (ART) programs, ensuring learners are prepared to meet employer expectations
- Assist learners with career planning, resume development, online professional profiles, interview preparation, networking strategies, and job search techniques to enhance employability
- Support learners in identifying and addressing barriers to employment by connecting them with appropriate resources and supports
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, industry partners, educational institutions, Indigenous organizations, and community agencies to support Elevate Aviation's employer engagement strategy
- Execute employer engagement and communication activities, including employer newsletters, updates on learner cohorts and program outcomes, industry insights, and information about emerging talent within Elevate Aviation's programs, in collaboration with the Senior Manager to keep employers informed and engaged
- Coordinate employer visits, workplace exposure opportunities, networking events, learner showcases, and other visibility activities that demonstrate learner capabilities and deepen employer connection to Elevate Aviation's workforce
- Monitor labour market trends within the aviation and aerospace industry and incorporate current labour market information into workshops, learner resources, career coaching, and employer communications
- Maintain ongoing communication with program graduates by providing career coaching, employment guidance, professional development resources, and updates on employment opportunities aligned with industry needs
- Maintain accurate learner files, including career plans, employment goals, coaching sessions, attendance, learner progress, employment status, and follow-up activities in accordance with funder requirements and privacy legislation
- Analyze learner outcomes and employment data to identify trends and prepare insights for the Senior Manager to support continuous improvement and strategic decision-making
- Prepare reports, presentations, and updates related to learner outcomes and employment activities as required
- Promote and uphold the vision, mission, values, and strategic priorities of Elevate Aviation
- Keep the Senior Manager, Aviation Training Programs informed of employer relationships, learner outcomes, employment activities, opportunities, and challenges through regular communication
- Adapt priorities and workflows to meet changing organizational needs in a dynamic and growth-oriented environment
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualification and Experience
- Post-secondary education in career development, employment services, business, communications, human services, education, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Minimum three years of experience in career development, employment services, workforce development, education, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with employers, industry representatives, and community partners to facilitate employment opportunities and partnerships
- Demonstrated experience providing career coaching, employment advising, or workforce development services
- Strong communications skills with experience developing and delivering employer communications, newsletters, program updates, or similar professional communications materials
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting employment outcomes data and labour market information to inform program decisions and reporting
- Experience supporting individuals with career planning, resume development, interview preparation, job search strategies, and employment readiness
- Experience developing and facilitating workshops, training sessions, or group learning activities (collaborative or independent)
- Strong understanding of career development principles, adult learning practices, and employment readiness strategies
- Experience maintaining client or learner case files and supporting reporting requirements
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of labour market information and workforce trends is considered an asset
- Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation is considered an asset
- Experience working with grant-funded programs and government-funded initiatives is considered an asset
- Understanding of barriers to employment and the unique needs of women, Indigenous Peoples, youth, and other equity-deserving groups is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) principles and inclusive program design is considered an asset
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and other workplace technology platforms
- A clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check
Work Environment
The Elevate Aviation Learning Centre is located at the Edmonton International Airport and offers free on-site parking.
This position is primarily based on-site and requires regular interaction with learners, graduates, employers, industry partners, and staff. Due to the hands-on nature of career coaching and learner support, the successful candidate is expected to work from the office whenever learners are participating in programs unless alternate arrangements have been approved in advance. Occasional flexibility to work remotely may be available when operational requirements permit.
The role involves a combination of one-on-one coaching, workshop facilitation, employer engagement, meetings, administrative work, case management, and learner support activities, along with intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, and light lifting.
Occasional evening and weekend work, as well as travel, may be required to support learner activities, employer engagement, events, and organizational initiatives.
