Intermediate Quantity Surveyor
We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Estimator/ Quantity Surveyor/ Cost Consultant to join our in-house Calgary team of costing professionals and become an integral part of our legacy of delivering cutting-edge cost management services where we have built a reputation for delivering accurate, reliable, and innovative quantity surveying and construction cost consulting services throughout Western Canada since 1982.
As an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor, you will help clients maintain effective control of project costs their capital costs for commercial, industrial, and institutional developments. Working alongside our multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to estimating, quantity surveying, and cost consulting services while building strong client relationships and delivering practical, value-driven solutions. Based in Alberta and deeply rooted in Western Canada, Tech-Cost is the community's go-to partner for navigating the intricacies of quantity surveying, construction cost consulting, and project monitoring.

You'll play a vital role in understanding our clients' unique challenges, providing tailored solutions, and being a true partner in their success. You will collaborate with our in-house team of multi-disciplinary cost professionals, expanding your knowledge base of all disciplines within the profession.
Key Responsibilities
· Cost planning and cost control, including quantity take-off
· Elemental and trade estimates at various stages ranging from Class E to Class A
· Communicate with industry professionals for market valuation
· Financial monitoring with cash-flow projections
· Forensic analysis of tenders for value-for-money compliance
· Conduct site visits to verify progress and completed work.
· Ensure compliance with Canadian construction standards, contract requirements, and company procedures.
· Provide support and oversight to junior quantity surveyor team members
Education and Experience
· Education: University/College/Vocational or Technical Training with a Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
· Credentials: Membership in the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) and/or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
· Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of estimating and construction cost consulting experience in projects ranging in size from $1,000,000 to $50,000,000+ in the Canadian Construction Industry.
· Strong understanding of all construction disciplines including but not limited to mechanical, architectural, structural, civil, electrical
· Experience working in the Alberta and Western Canadian markets is an asset
Key Requirements
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with estimating, quantity take-off, scheduling, or cost management software is considered an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
