The Bike Shop Manager leads the bike department's sales floor and team, driving revenue through strong customer relationships, proactive selling, and hands-on leadership — while using their product knowledge to guide purchasing decisions in partnership with the General Manager/Owner.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and motivate the bike sales team to consistently meet and exceed sales targets
- Drive a proactive, consultative sales approach on the floor — leading by example with customers
- Develop and execute strategies to grow bike department revenue, average sale value and customer retention
- Analyze sales trends, seasonality and inventory turns to provide ordering recommendations to the General Manager/Owner
- Partner with the General Manager/Owner on assortment planning, pricing strategy and promotional campaigns
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate with the order desk to ensure the right bikes and accessories are in stock
- Set daily, weekly and monthly sales goals for the team and track performance against them
- Train staff on product knowledge, fit, and features across bike lines to support informed selling
- Ensure customers receive accurate guidance on bike selection, fit and accessories
- Oversee scheduling and day-to-day floor operations to ensure excellent customer service
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe sales environment
- Available to work a variety of hours, which may include mornings, evenings and weekends
Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years of sales leadership or supervisory experience, ideally in bike, outdoor or specialty retail
- Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales quotas
- Strong working knowledge of bikes, components and accessories (technical repair background not required)
- Ability to lead, coach and motivate a team in a fast-paced retail environment
- Strategic mindset with the ability to translate sales data into actionable purchasing recommendations
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with customers and staff
- Comfortable analyzing sales and inventory data to inform decisions
- Familiarity with POS and inventory management systems
- Enthusiastic, professional and customer-focused
- Ability to handle pressure and multiple priorities
