We are currently seeking and have an immediate opening for a qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of Junior Accountant based out of our Calgary, AB location (293029 James Jones Way #101, Balzac, AB).
This role offers strong foundational experience and broad exposure across month-end close, financial accounting & reporting, audit support, and SOX compliance, while also contributing to automation and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate would be innately detail-oriented, forward-thinking, and eager to grow their accounting career, as CPA designation is not required; candidates working toward their CPA are welcome but not mandatory.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger
- Perform account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, with a focus on increasing automation
- Support month-end close activities, including schedules, variance analysis, and follow-up
- Ensure completeness, accuracy, and US GAAP compliance of financial data within a strong internal control environment
- Assist in the preparation of internal and external financial reports
- Prepare and maintain working papers, audit schedules, and supporting documentation
- Support internal and external audits, including SOX testing and indirect tax audit requests; respond to auditor inquiries
- Operate effectively within an established SOX control framework and support control documentation and testing
- Contribute to automation and process improvement initiatives, driving standardization, simplification, and operational efficiencies
- Assist with documentation and continuous improvement of accounting policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1–3 years of accounting experience (public practice or industry)
- Strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles; exposure to US GAAP preferred
- Progress toward CPA designation would be an asset, but is not required
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., lookups, PivotTables, IFS, text functions)
- Experience or exposure to ERP/financial systems (e.g., Infor, Epicor) considered an asset
- Familiarity with SOX environments, audit support, reconciliations, or indirect tax is an asset
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity
- Interest in process improvement, automation, and developing technical accounting skills
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet month-end deadlines
