Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Steel Estimator to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for steel fabrication and installation projects. This role requires a strong understanding of construction estimating, project management, and pricing strategies within the steel industry. The Steel Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, clients, and suppliers to ensure bids are competitive and profitable, contributing to the successful execution of large-scale construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed steel estimates by analyzing project drawings, specifications, and scope of work using Bluebeam and other estimating software.
- Review project plans and specifications to determine material quantities, labor costs, and equipment needs.
- Utilize HeavyBid and other tools to develop accurate pricing models and bid proposals.
- Collaborate with project management teams to develop project timelines, budgets, and resource allocations.
- Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing on materials and services.
- Assist in the review of contract documents and coordinate with clients to clarify project requirements.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, and related documentation for future reference.
- Stay updated on industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and new estimating techniques to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements
- Proven experience (5 years experience) in construction estimating, preferably within the steel or heavy civil industries.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and pricing strategies.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam for markup and document management.
- Experience with HeavyBid or similar estimating software is highly desirable.
- Excellent negotiation skills to secure favorable terms with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and clients.
- Construction experience is preferred to better understand project scope and technical requirements.
