Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! The Successful Candidate Will:
1. Responsible for program delivery of music programs for preschool, children, youth and adults.
2. May assist the Recreation Culture Programmer with program description as well as promote the program.
3. Ensures attendance is taken at each class and all paperwork is handed in promptly on the last day of the session.
4. Provides a program plan to the Cultural Programmer that includes equipment and supplies required, development plans as well as a multi-level program for participants to continue, if applicable.
5. Provides an individualized approach that assists with the mastery of skills and development within the program.
6. Liaises with the Cultural Programmer, participants and or their parents to troubleshoot and discuss any issues or concerns with the program, facility or participants.
7. Ability to manage their class time and preparation time, as well as arriving on time for their program, ensuring all supplies are available and that such equipment and supplies are maintained in a safe condition and ensures a proper setup of their room prior to the commencement of each class.
8. Works cooperatively and maintains ongoing and effective communication with participants, and the Cultural Programmer.
9. Fills out the required paperwork that deals with Health and Safety issues, accidents, incidents or facility issues and/or escalates issues as appropriate.

All
1. Music accreditation, or certification as appropriate to the music genre level/grade.
2. Experience in teaching music programs in the specific genre for the program (e.g. piano, guitar, ukulele, flute)
3. Experience in music program design, development and delivery experience in a music school, recreational or school setting.
4. Excellent interpersonal, team effectiveness, communication, organizational and leadership skills.
5. Strong customer service and administrative skills.
6. Availability/flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and at different sites as required.
7. Demonstrated time management skills with ability to prioritize demands, meet customer service standards and deadlines.
8. Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.
9. Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification required (Preschool-Youth classes).
10. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
Specialized 1 – Starting at $25.00
1. Responsible for program delivery of music programs for preschool and children.
Specialized 2 – Starting at $30.00
1. Responsible for program delivery of music programs for youth and adults.
Please Note:
1. Rate of pay will be determined by Town of Newmarket staff based on applicant experience and/or program requirements.
2. Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
Disclaimer: Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through a WSIB-approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C certification at candidates own cost.
