Position Summary
The Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and cooking nutritious meals and desserts for residents in the home. The Cook is committed to the meal service schedule and ensuring all meals are ready to be served at the correct temperature with the appropriate therapeutic and texture modified diets available. Food production standards and safety will be a top priority. Reporting to the Dietary Manager, you will ensure you collaborate with the department team
Key Responsibilities:
· Assist the department to ensure an organized program of nutrition and hydration services to meet resident needs and provide safe and nutritious choices.
· Support goals for controlled food costs, inventory, waste and resident satisfaction.
· Ensure all safety standards are upheld and documented.
· Monitor food inventory and follow communication processes to coordinate ordering of supplies.
· Ensure all Public Health and Long-Term Care legislative requirements are met.
· Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including supplies, equipment and utensils.
· Interact with residents to discuss their satisfaction as required.
· Interact on various committees as required.
· Ensure that food and beverages, including water, that are appropriate for the residents’ diets are accessible to staff for residents on a 24-hour basis. Provide continued access to fresh produce.
Requirements:
· Proof of completed post-secondary chef training or culinary management diploma or certificate or certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cook
· Minimum 1 year experience in senior care, healthcare or institutional setting
· Red Seal certification is considered an asset
· Food Handler’s Certificate

- Tuberculosis testing within the last two years; Steps 1 & 2; or an X-Ray from the previous five years showing a clear result.
- Proof of current immunization according to Plan A policy.
- Able to provide a complete and current (dated within 90 days) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (required)
