Employee Duties and Requirements
- Shift times are Monday to Friday 8-10am and 6:30-8:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 8-10am, 12-2pm, and 6:30-8:30pm.
- Just covering vacations and sick time.
- The job duties of the Employee are but are not limited to:
- Providing support to people with varied physical and developmental abilities and be responsive to their choices, needs and opinions
- Supporting the people served to maintain their current living situation by assisting them with their every day care and needs
- Providing dignified personal care, including bathing
- Supporting and assisting the person served with cleaning duties such as cleaning their bathroom and bedroom, and other chores such as laundry
- Supporting and assisting the person served with cooking and eating
- Support and assist the people we serve with various appointments or outings approved by management
- Promoting and supporting individual rights
- Providing safe lifting and transferring techniques (training provided)
- Providing safe transportation for the people we serve (as approved by COS management)
- Safely administer various types of medications following the medication administration policies and procedures
- Completing file management for the people we serve including but not limited to: updating their information, completing annual planning meetings, etc.
- Providing support, guidance, mentoring, coaching and encouragement to the people we serve to develop personal goals and achieve their goals
- Complete daily logging including but not limited to: behavioral, contact, important and daily notes.
- Use Positive Behaviour Supports and effective communication with the people we serve
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with caregivers, other staff, management, CLBC, the community and other supports/stakeholders as necessary
- Taking direction and guidance from management
- The Employee understands, that in addition to the job duties listed, employment with Chilliwack Opportunity Society can cause emotional involvement and emotional distress. The Employee will practice self-care as needed and will debrief with management when needed in order to manage such emotional involvement and distress. The Employer is not responsible for the mental health of the Employee but will support the Employee in alignment with the BCGEU Collective Agreement.
- The Job Requirements of the Employee are:
- A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check can be requested by the Employer at any time at their expense. The Employee is required to immediately disclose to the Employer if the Employee comes under criminal investigation.
- A Clear Driver’s Record. Driver’s records can be requested at any time at the discretion of the Employer. The Employee is required to immediately disclose to the Employer if they are involved in any incidents that may affect their Driver’s Record.
- Emergency/Basic First Aid & CPR/AED must be renewed as necessary at the Employer’s expense.
- Food Safe Level 1 will be obtained/renewed as the Employer’s request and expense.
- TD1 and TD1BC forms are required by the Employer to be updated immediately upon any changes to the Employee’s information.
- The Employee will complete any reading materials, videos or trainings upon request from the Employer and acknowledge their completion within timelines outlined by the Employer. Examples include but are not limited to: the Policy and Procedure Manual, Employee Handbook, CLBC Privacy Training, etc.
- The Employee will be required to complete mandatory training at the discretion and expense of the Employer including but not limited to: Mandt, First Aid, Food Safe, etc.
- The Employee will be required to complete competency testing at the discretion of the Employer within the timelines outlined by the Employer. Examples include but are not limited to: OH&S evacuation drills, Critical Incident Reporting, Medication Administration, etc.
- Continuous learning and development as requested by the Director of Service
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or higher. The Employee must provide a copy to the Employer and renew as needed.
- Additional requirements for Employees working in Homemaker services are:
- Safe, reliable vehicle with 3 million liability insurance. A copy of the Employee’s vehicle insurance must be provided to the Employer, and the Employee must renew the insurance as needed.
- If the employee does not have the driver’s license, vehicle or insurance listed above, they are responsible for finding other reliable methods of transportation in order to arrive on time for their shift (i.e. transit, taxi). The employee is still eligible for milage reimbursement as per the BCGEU Collective Agreement.
- The employee is responsible for the renewal of all requirements.

Pay: $27.53-$31.57 per hour
