Great North Airlines is seeking a passionate and driven Talent Acquisition & HR Operations Specialist to join our growing team. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, this position plays a key role in attracting, hiring, and onboarding top talent while supporting critical HR operations across the organization.

SCOPE OF THE JOB/POSITION
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Talent Acquisition & HR Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting the full employee lifecycle, with a primary focus on recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding activities. This role is responsible for talent acquisition while providing operational support in HR and payroll administration, employee relations, labour relations, benefits administration, and HR compliance. Approximately 70% of the role is dedicated to recruitment and employee lifecycle activities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Talent Acquisition, Onboarding & Offboarding
- Manage full-cycle recruitment activities for operational, technical, maintenance, flight operations, customer service, and corporate positions.
- Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing requirements and develop recruitment strategies.
- Source candidates through a variety of channels including job boards, networking, referrals, industry associations, and talent pipelines.
- Screen resumes, conduct interviews, coordinate assessments, and recommend qualified candidates.
- Manage reference checks, background checks, and pre-employment screening requirements.
- Prepare employment offers and new hire documentation.
- Coordinate and facilitate employee onboarding and orientation programs.
- Ensure a seamless and engaging candidate and onboarding experience.
- Build and maintain talent pipelines for specialized and difficult-to-fill positions.
- Attend career fairs, recruitment events, and industry networking opportunities.
- Track recruitment metrics and recommend process improvements.
- Manage employee offboarding activities including resignations, exit interviews, documentation, system access coordination, and employee communications.
- Analyze onboarding and exit interview feedback to support employee retention and engagement initiatives.
- Ensure all employee lifecycle processes are completed accurately and in compliance with company policies and legislative requirements.
Labour Relations & Employee Relations
- Support the Director, Human Resources with labour relations matters and collective agreement administration.
- Assist with collective bargaining preparation, including research, data gathering, costing support, and administrative coordination.
- Support grievance administration and related documentation.
- Assist with workplace investigations and employee relations matters.
- Provide guidance to managers and employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace practices.
- Promote positive employee relations and support a respectful workplace culture.
HR, Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Provide support for payroll processing activities and payroll-related inquiries.
- Assist with payroll audits, reporting, reconciliations, and employee data maintenance.
- Support benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation while ensuring confidentiality and data integrity.
- Assist with employment verification requests and HR correspondence.
HR Operations & HRIS Support
- Support the implementation, testing, and enhancement of the Company's Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
- Maintain HRIS data accuracy and employee records.
- Generate HR reports, recruitment metrics, and workforce analytics.
- Support process improvement initiatives and HR projects.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts that enhance HR service delivery and operational effectiveness.
Compliance & HR Support
- Support the administration and coordination of the Company's Occupational Health & Safety programs and initiatives.
- Ensure HR activities comply with applicable employment, labour, human rights, privacy, and workplace legislation.
- Support policy development, communication, and implementation.
- Actively promote safety and quality within the organization and department by encouraging employee participation in SMS and ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Comply with all SMS and safety policies, processes, and standards.
- Participate in special projects as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as required by the Director, Human Resources.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Human Resources and Talent Acquisition
- Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle recruitment.
- Experience recruiting for aviation specialized positions is preferred.
- Aviation industry experience is preferred.
- Experience supporting onboarding and employee lifecycle programs.
- Exposure to payroll administration and employee benefits programs.
- Experience within a unionized environment
- Experience supporting HRIS implementations or HR technology projects is Strong understanding of recruitment and talent acquisition best practices.
- Proficiency with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), HRIS platforms (UKG), Microsoft Office Suite, and recruitment technologies.
- Strong reporting, organizational, and administrative skills.
- High degree of diplomacy and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced changing environment;
- Motivated and enthusiastic team player who can work in an autonomous and/or team setting;
- Flexibility and willingness to work irregular hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays; travel up to 20%.
- Frequent sitting, computer monitor and keyboard use for extended periods of time.
Pay: $75,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
