We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Manager to join our team in the food service and hospitality industry. The Assistant Manager will support daily restaurant functions, oversee team performance, and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
Indochine is a small quick service Asian Fusion restaurant located near the new YMCA on South Park Street in Halifax. We have a reputation for offering excellent food and customer service. Since opening in 2010 we have developed a loyal customer following that is expanding year over year.
We are currently seeking someone with high energy and a positive attitude to fill the role of Assistant Manager. The Assistant Manager will assist with the following duties and responsibilities:
· Establish a friendly, positive culture for staff and customers
· Prep in the kitchen and cleaning duties as required
· Direct staff in day-to-day operations
· Use strong time management skills and attention to detail to complete tasks
· Ensure consistency with recipes and food preparation
. Multi tasking skills and washing dishes when require, cleaning tasks
· Be familiar with all recipes and know how to do all prep
· Manage inventory
· Ensure the cleanliness of the restaurant
· Troubleshoot and address issues as they arise (equipment, technology, etc.)
· Be available to respond to issues or emergencies outside normal working hours in Manager's absence.
· Communicate regularly with the Manager through informal communication as well as regular meetings.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Minimum of 2 years experience in a supervisory role in the food service industry
· A passion for high quality food and familiarity with Asian cuisine
· Outstanding customer service skills including interaction & communication
· Experience with inventory management
· Good mathematical skills
· Strong problem solving skills – ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues when they arise
- working hours: Week days 2:30-9pm, weekends: full day like 10:30-9pm
Duties
- Assist in supervising daily restaurant operations, including food preparation, cooking, and serving activities
- Oversee food handling procedures to ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
- Manage POS systems such as Micros POS for order processing and cash handling
- Lead and motivate staff through effective team management, including interviewing, training, and scheduling
- Monitor customer service quality to ensure a positive dining experience
- Supervise food industry best practices, including kitchen operations and hospitality standards
- Assist in inventory management, ordering supplies, and maintaining cleanliness of the restaurant environment
- Support restaurant management in implementing policies and procedures for smooth operation
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly to maintain high satisfaction levels
Experience
- Proven supervising experience within a food service or restaurant environment
- Strong background in food preparation, cooking, and food handling techniques
- Experience with restaurant management systems such as Micros POS or similar platforms
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage teams effectively and motivate staff
- Background in hospitality or hotel experience is a plus
- Previous roles involving interviewing, hiring, and training staff preferred
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and standards is essential
- Experience working in the food industry, including serving or barista experience, is advantageous
- Prior restaurant or kitchen experience is highly desirable

Pay: $16.75-$18.00 per hour
