Job DescriptionRole Summary
The Personal In-Home Health Care Aid provides individualized, hands-on assistance to support an adult with severe cerebral palsy to live safely and comfortably at home and facilitate participation in their community. Services are delivered in accordance with CLBC principles, emphasizing choice, dignity, community inclusion, and person-centred care.
The adult in need of care is male in his thirties who loves to be social, play board games, go on skytrain adventures, and learn about animals. He is young at heart, easy-going, happy in nature, and deeply values his faith, family, friends and community.
The successful candidate for this role is someone who is adventurous, creative, social, and has a good sense of humor. They must have strong multi-tasking skills and be highly attentive to non-verbal communication and facial expressions. Respect for the individual’s faith, family, friends, hobbies, and interests is critical. This person must also be tidy, organized, patient, good-natured, while initiating constant inclusion and participation.
Key ResponsibilitiesPersonal Care & Physical Support
- Assist with bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene
- Support safe transfers, repositioning, and mobility using appropriate techniques and/or equipment
- Assist with G-tube feeding, administer medication, and hydration
- Support comfort, positioning, and skin integrity
- Assist with passive range-of-motion stretches and exercises as directed
- Observe and report changes in physical condition, comfort, and/or behaviour
Household & Routine Support
- Light housekeeping directly related to care (laundry, cleaning care areas)
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment
Communication & Person-Centred Care
- Communicate respectfully using the individual’s preferred communication methods
- Follow the individual’s routines, preferences, and directions
- Support participation in daily activities, appointments, and community involvement
Professional Standards & Documentation
- Maintain basic care notes or logs as required by CLBC funding agreements
- Respect confidentiality and personal boundaries
- Follow health, safety, and infection-control practices
- Additional tasks and responsibilities upon request.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years experience providing personal care to individuals with physical disabilities or complex needs (or equivalent nursing experience)
- Ability to perform physical aspects of the role, including transfers and personal care
- Eligible to work in Canada (Citizen, permanent resident, or valid open work permit)
- Driver’s license and clean driving record (accessible vehicle provided)
- Valid BC Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong communication skills and a calm, patient approach
- Reliability, professionalism, and respect for person-centred care
Preferred Qualifications
- Health Care Assistant (HCA) certificate, Nursing certification, or equivalent
- Experience supporting individuals with cerebral palsy or similar physical disabilities
- Experience or training with G-tube feeding, use of lifts & slings, and medical suction unit
- Training in safe transfers, lifts, or complex care

Pay: $24.00-$29.00 per hour
