We are currently seeking Concrete Form Setter / Carpenter / Finishers / Framers/Erectors whom are responsible, stable, well rounded individuals, with a healthy work ethic to get the job done, a passion for results, and providing accurate and quality results to service our expanding operactions and client base. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for setting up forms, pouring, levelling, and finishing concrete for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, including foundations, slabs, sidewalks, curbs. A strong general understanding of construction, materials, applications, techniques, framing, use of tools and equipment, SPL principals are needed. This role requires an understanding of concrete forming and finishing techniques, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality. Compensation is directly linked to Skill-Set, Reliability and Accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formwork Setup: Prepare, set up, and align concrete forms to specified grades and depths for structures such as foundations, floors, walls, suspended slabs, sidewalks, curbs, and patios.
- Rebar Placement: Depending on the job and timelines, rebar placement is part of our scope of work.
- Concrete Placement: Direct the placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces, ensuring proper compaction using power vibrators and other tools.
- Finishing: Smooth, level, and finish freshly poured concrete using hand tools (trowels, floats, screeds) and power tools (power trowels, grinders) to achieve desired textures, including broom, exposed aggregate, stamped, or polished finishes.
- Surface Treatments: Apply curing agents, sealants, hardening compounds, or epoxy coatings to protect and enhance concrete surfaces.
- Repairs and Restoration: Inspect, repair, resurface, or replace damaged or worn concrete structures, including patching voids and filling joints with epoxy.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate tools and equipment, including power trowels, screeds, grinders, and potentially small machinery like skid steers (if DZ/AZ license is held).
- Site Preparation: Assist with preparing sub-bases, installing rebar, and setting anchor bolts, steel plates, or other fixtures in concrete.
- Steel erection: there are opportunities where we provide a full construction package and provide steel building erection and cladding. General construction knowledge and operating lifts are an asset.
- Carpentry Requirements: Knowledge of carpentry tools, techniques, and materials, strong blueprint reading, excellent math and layout skills, and a sharp attention to quality craftsmanship.
- Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including removing debris, cleaning forms, and adhering to workplace safety standards
· Team Collaboration: Work closely with foremen, laborers, and other tradespeople to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Experience: Minimum of –3 years of hands-on experience in concrete forming and finishing, with expertise in flatwork (e.g., driveways, sidewalks, floors) and alternative concrete techniques (e.g., stamped, exposed aggregate).
· Education: Secondary school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Completion of a 2- to 4-year apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience is preferred.
· Licenses: Valid G class driver’s license with a clean driving record is preferred, with a DZ or AZ license considered an asset for operating equipment or transporting materials. Reliable transportation to job sites is required.
The ability and willingness to work out of town when needed is a requirement.
· Skills:
o Proficiency in using hand and power tools (trowels, screeds, power trowels, grinders, etc.).
o Strong understanding of concrete properties, curing methods, and finishing techniques.
o Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
o Knowledge of decorative concrete applications (e.g., stamped, exposed aggregate, epoxy coatings) is a plus.
· Physical Requirements: Physically capable of lifting up to 50–100 lbs, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Ability to work in various weather conditions and at heights (e.g., on scaffolding).
· Personal Attributes: Reliably. Strong work ethic, attention to detail, reliability, punctuality, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Additional Assets:
o Experience with Layout Design
o Experience with precast concrete or specialized coatings (e.g., epoxy, urethane).
o Familiarity with operating heavy equipment or machinery (e.g., skid steer, boom lifts).
o Knowledge of workplace safety standards and ability to work on scaffolding or swing stages.
Work Environment:
· Location: Projects are in Ontario. Most sites are within 1-1.5 hours of Kitchener/Waterloo. Must have be able to get to shop or travel to job sites. Paid compensation for out of town work.
· Work Schedule/Season: Typically 35–40+ hours per week, with potential for overtime. We aim to work 12 months per year without layoffs.
· Conditions: Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, physically demanding tasks, and exposure to dust, noise, and heavy materials
