Personal Care Workers
(Full-Time, Part-Time, and Casual Positions Available)
Job Summary
A joyful, kind and energetic teen with a rare condition (Pontocerebellar Hypoplasia Type 2) needs an enthusiastic new team member to join her at-home care team. She is a nonverbal teen who enjoys watching movies, community outings, shopping, and meeting up with friends.
A successful candidate for the Personal Care Worker(s) role will be a team player willing to learn new skills. Since the child being cared for care has an extremely rare genetic disorder, specialized training and professional development support will be provided. However, knowledge and experience with patients who have complex needs/disabilities would be an asset.
This opportunity is perfect for anyone who loves a challenge and wants to grow in their skills with this unique opportunity. The current care team includes Registered Nurses, Licenced Practical Nurses, Education Assistants, and Support Workers.
We offer competitive pay and a health spending program. Currently, we are hiring for overnight, and weekend day or evening shifts. On-site parking is available.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Operate lifts, slings
- Bed, wheelchair, shower chair transfers
- Showering of the client
- Brief changes and personal hygiene care
- Administration of medication (extra training provided)
- Care and comfort when the child is in distress
- Repositioning to assist with confronting the child
- Mental and emotional support (she is a teen who is stuck at home and loves to be social)
- Assist with maintaining the tidiness and mandatory hygiene in the workplace - may include light housekeeping duties such as (but not limited to) cleaning up messes as they arise, sweeping, and wiping surfaces
- Laundry and bed changes
- Basic food prep for a feeding tube
- Play games and engage with the child
- Collaborate with the rest of the team regarding care assignments for the child
- Giving PRN medications and repositioning during medical episodes
- Acting as a key companion/support during outings in the community
- Facilitation of community inclusion activities
Personal Requirements
- Understanding of appropriate conduct when working in a home care environment
- Respectful of family space
- Willingness to work with the family regarding the unique and rare challenges of the child’s disability
- Humility and kindness towards others
- Understanding the importance of hygiene when dealing with complex needs
- Understanding of age-appropriate conduct when dealing with an under-age patient
- Be a reliable, punctual
- Patient, caring, and helpful (Please bring a positive attitude into the home. Always remember that this is more than a workspace; it’s a home for a loving family)
- Must be a team player
Qualifications
- Care Aide Certificate or a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Successful Criminal Record Check
- First Aide Certificate
- Food Safe (asset but not required)
- Valid means of contact (working phone)
- Basic computer knowledge (example: Google Docs and Spreadsheets)
Schedule & Weekend Shifts:
- One to two overnight shifts from 10:30PM to 8:30AM
- Weekend Day shifts from 7:00AM to 3:00PM or 3:00PM to 10:30PM

NOCLS is a non-profit organization that provides behind-the-scenes support and resources to families who manage funding for a loved one requiring daily living support. NOCLS is not the employer.

Pay: From $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
