Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our public practice firm in British Columbia. This role focuses on compilation engagements, corporate and personal tax preparation, and client advisory services for small and medium-sized businesses. There is no audit work involved.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in public practice, excellent technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple client files while supporting and mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review Compilation Engagement (Notice to Reader) financial statements in accordance with CSRS 4200 and ASPE.
- Prepare and review corporate (T2) and personal (T1) tax returns.
- Prepare year-end working papers and supporting documentation.
- Prepare GST/HST filings and other compliance reporting as required.
- Identify tax planning opportunities for owner-managed businesses.
- Communicate directly with clients to gather financial information and address accounting or tax matters.
- Review work prepared by junior staff and provide guidance and mentorship.
- Manage multiple client engagements and ensure deadlines are met.
- Assist with year-end planning, tax compliance, and general business advisory services.
- Maintain compliance with CRA regulations and professional standards.
Qualifications
- CPA designation
- 5-6+ years of experience in public practice accounting in Canada.
- Strong knowledge of ASPE and Canadian tax regulations.
- Experience preparing T2 corporate tax returns and T1 personal tax returns.
- Experience with Compilation Engagements (CSRS 4200).
- Proficiency in software such as CaseWare/CaseView, TaxPrep, QuickBooks, or Sage.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Excellent communication and client service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tax planning for owner-managed businesses.
- Experience supervising or reviewing junior staff work.
- Familiarity with cloud accounting platforms (QuickBooks Online, Xero, etc.).
