The Facilities & Client Services Manager plays a vital leadership role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of residents by overseeing all aspects of building maintenance, housekeeping, laundry, and environmental services. Reporting to the General Manager, this position is responsible for maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment while leading a dedicated team, managing building systems, coordinating contractors, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and health and safety requirements. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing strategic planning with day-to-day operational oversight in a senior living environment.
Responsibilities:
Environmental Services Leadership
- Lead the daily operations of the maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry departments to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve departmental procedures, standards, and quality initiatives.
- Conduct regular inspections of the building and grounds to identify maintenance priorities and opportunities for improvement.
Building Operations & Preventive Maintenance
- Oversee the maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance of the facility, grounds, equipment, and furnishings.
- Ensure the proper operation of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety systems.
- Coordinate and monitor contractor work to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to specification.
People Leadership
- Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, mentor, and evaluate Environmental Services staff.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and safety-focused team culture.
- Lead regular department meetings and ensure staff understand and adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee and promote a strong culture of workplace safety.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
- Complete required inspections, audits, documentation, and staff training programs.
Budget & Administration
- Assist in developing and managing departmental budgets while monitoring expenditures and resource utilization.
- Maintain accurate records, maintenance schedules, payroll information, and departmental reports.
- Utilize Microsoft Office and other business software to support daily operations and reporting.
The ideal candidate is a proactive and service-oriented facilities leader with experience managing environmental services, maintenance operations, and staff within a healthcare, retirement, or long-term care environment. They possess a solid understanding of building systems, preventive maintenance, and regulatory compliance while demonstrating strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on operational support, they thrive in a collaborative environment and are passionate about creating a safe, clean, and welcoming home for seniors.

- Experience in a retirement residence, long-term care, or healthcare environment with a strong understanding of applicable regulations and accreditation standards.
- Technical expertise across multiple building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire safety, combined with a preventive maintenance mindset.
- Proven people leadership experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and building high-performing environmental services teams.
- Strong health and safety knowledge, with experience chairing Joint Health and Safety Committees, leading compliance initiatives, and driving continuous operational improvements.
