Job Overview
Granatier Sportsplex is looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Hockey Skills Coach to lead our off-ice training program for the 2026–2027 Granatier Player Academy. In this role, you’ll work primarily on our skating treadmill and in our dedicated off-ice shooting bay, helping players in grade 7 & 8 improve their stride, shot and overall mechanics. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced hockey minds who love breaking down the details of skating and shooting and using technology to accelerate player development.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-energy, technical off-ice training sessions on our skating treadmill and in the off-ice shooting bay.
- Evaluate athletes’ skating and shooting mechanics, identify deficiencies and implement corrective drills.
- Use coaching-specific software and video analysis tools to record, review and provide visual feedback to players.
- Maintain a safe, positive and professional training environment at all times.
- Track athlete progress and adjust training plans accordingly.
- Communicate clearly with players, parents and academy staff about goals and development.
- Assist with basic equipment upkeep and facility tidiness.
- Optionally, take on private 1-on-1 sessions and on-ice assistance as needed (additional earning opportunities).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Coaching background in ice hockey is strongly preferred.
- Minimum playing experience at the AA level or higher is required.
- Deep understanding of skating mechanics (stride efficiency, edge work, posture) and shooting mechanics (weight transfer, hand positioning, release).
- Proven ability to spot technical flaws and clearly communicate corrections.
- Comfortable using technology, including tablets, apps, and coaching-specific software (e.g., Coach Lens or similar video analysis tools).
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the full season (September 2026 – May 2027).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with youth athletes.
Schedule & Commitment
- 4 days per week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- Occasional Fridays may be required based on the school calendar.
- Hours: 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM.
- Additional optional hours available through private sessions and on-ice help.
Compensation
- $30.00 – $40.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
- Opportunity to increase earnings by coaching private sessions and supporting on-ice programs.
