Wheels for the Wise is a Canada-wide affiliate of the Veterans Affairs Independence Program, supporting Veterans as well as other medically eligible individuals in safely accessing medical appointments.
We are the first company in Canada to provide trauma-informed mobility assistance and client support for those traveling to medical appointments, such as mental-health care, diagnostics, dental care, and post-surgical follow-ups, with various approved medical practitioners.
This is an ideal role for someone semi-retired or community-minded who wants meaningful, calm work supporting those in need and those who served — with Veterans as our top priority.
Please note this is a casual, part-time opportunity.
Role Responsibilities:
- Assist clients in getting to and from medical appointments
- Provide calm, respectful, trauma-aware support (training provided)
- Safely operate your vehicle for pre-scheduled medical trips
- Assist clients entering and exiting vehicles and buildings
- Use a smartphone to receive schedules and updates
- Maintain a professional, client-focused demeanor
- Build and foster relations with clients and their caregiver(s)
- Communicate with your manager and our Client Care Centre regularly
- Adapt quickly to scheduling changes, client needs, and weather/road conditions.
Requirements:
- Clean Driver’s Abstract
- Subject to a Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check
- Must be fluent in English
- Ability to safely support a client’s balance or weight if needed
- Smartphone and comfort with basic apps
- Strong attention to detail, able to complete logs and expense reports accurately and on time
- Empathetic: must be polite, patient, and understanding
- Winter Drive:10+ years of winter driving required
- Reliability is an absolute MUST, our clients are counting on us
Preferred:
- Veteran, retired RCMP, or First Responder background
- Experience supporting individuals with PTSD or anxiety
- Open availability, generally free most weekdays
- Located in or near Ottawa, ON
