Geoscape Contracting is a pioneer in the green industry specializing in landscape construction for many large commercial and urban developers, with projects spanning across the GTA. We dedicate ourselves to all aspects of commercial landscaping, including but not limited to; softscaping, hardscaping, grading, retaining walls, plant installation, sodding, terraseeding, park construction and trucking.
Lead Hand
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain safety as number 1 priority in all daily activities.
- Conduct all business in a professional fashion ensuring Geoscape’s Core Values are being represented to the highest standards.
- Wears the provided uniform and ensures it is clean; always wearing PPE (Protective Personal Equipment). This includes CSA approved steel toe boots.
- Follows and understands Employee Manual and The Greenprint.
- Informs the Foreman of any incidents, injuries or damage to property.
- Helps instruct and train employees on safe and efficient work practices.
- Follows directions from and assists the site Foreman with layout and site coordination. Assists with planting, mulching and watering trees.
- Dig with valid locates in hands at all times, no exceptions;
- Supervises and coaches the team to increase motivation and efficiency. Demonstrates thinking ahead by asking questions and motivating workers to embrace learning.
- Tours the site regularly and helps the team keep it clean and organized. This includes ensuring tools are accounted for and are in working condition.
- Maintains constant communication with Site Foreman and informs immediately of any deficiencies – mistakes, errors, contamination, or damages (property, equipment etc.).
- Participates in and engages coworkers when going over weekly Toolbox Talks.
- Demonstrates ability to self-motivate
- Possession of valid Ontario Driver’s license and ability to get to different job sites around the GTA.
- Contributes to maintaining a culture that has an emphasis on health and safety.
- Ability to work well with co-workers, supervisors, other employees, client groups and the general public while delegating and directing subordinates.
Mental Efforts:
- Works well under pressure and in a fast pace environment.
- Excellent communication and problem solving abilities.
- Must be able to plan ahead while simultaneously leading and working alongside crew members.
Physical Efforts:
- Able to lift 50lbs and is physically fit.
- Constantly bending, pulling and lifting, shoveling, raking, planting and working with hand tools for long periods of time and in a repetitive motion.
- Ability to move material around jobsite by hand or using small machines over unleveled terrain. This includes a lot of walking and standing for long periods of time.
Type of Supervision Given:
- Supervise and give direction to staff onsite.
- Direct and supervise truck drivers while they are onsite.
- May be asked to supervise an entire crew.
