What will you be doing!

Leading the review and enhancement of accounting policies and procedures to ensure alignment with applicable accounting standards and organizational requirements.

Researching and interpreting updates to accounting standards (e.g., IFRS and PSAS), incorporating changes into internal policies and practices.

Developing and maintaining clear accounting policy documentation, guidance materials, and practical application examples.

Collaborating with Finance leadership and key stakeholders to review, refine, approve, and implement accounting policies and procedures.

Assessing existing accounting documentation and processes to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.

Benchmarking accounting practices against industry standards and best practices to support continuous improvement.

Identifying process inefficiencies, compliance risks, and control weaknesses, while recommending effective solutions.

Providing subject matter expertise and mentorship on accounting standards, policies, and best practices to Finance staff.

Supporting knowledge transfer and capability development through documentation, training, and guidance materials.

Advising on accounting operations, financial reporting processes, period-end close activities, and audit readiness initiatives.

What we are looking for:

Education
-
Post-secondary education in an Accounting or business-related field.
-
Professional accounting designation (CPA) is required
-
Experience
-
10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, or audit.

Extensive experience in accounting and financial reporting leadership roles.

Strong experience supporting internal and external audits.
-
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-
In-depth knowledge of full-cycle accounting processes, including month-end and year-end close.

Expertise in accounting policy development and governance.
-
Familiarity with CNL accounting systems, processes, and reporting frameworks.

Proven ability to provide strategic advice and mentorship to finance teams.

Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Excellent communication and advisory skills,
-
Ability to work independently in a consultative, part-time capacity.

High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Reliability Status, which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

This position is offered on a fully remote basis, allowing you to work from home anywhere in Canada. You’ll collaborate virtually with a dynamic team across CNL sites, helping to advance Canada’s clean energy and environmental goals from your home office.
