Job Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior / Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to head our building systems engineering team. As a quickly expanding company, we are looking for a technical leader who can not only deliver high-quality designs for complex projects but also mentor staff, drive project success, and foster growth.
Job Description:
- Technical Leadership: Oversee and review the mechanical systems design (HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and sprinkler systems) for mid- and high-rise residential buildings.
- Project Management: Lead and manage multiple engineering projects of varying size and complexity simultaneously from concept through to commissioning and completion.
- Design & Quality Assurance: Establish design concepts, approve detailed designs, tender packages, and construction documents. Ensure all drawings, schematics, and specifications meet top-tier QA/QC standards.
- Team Mentorship: Supervise, mentor, and guide intermediate/junior designers and engineers. Solve complex technical issues and bottlenecks within projects.
- Coordination & Collaboration: Lead interdisciplinary coordination (structural, electrical, architectural) to ensure seamless integration of layouts, pipe, and duct runs.
- Site & Construction Oversight: Conduct critical field visits, upset-limit reviews, and handle complex site issues, commissioning processes, and contract administration.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs strictly comply with the Ontario Building Code (OBC), CSA, ASHRAE, and NFPA standards.
- Client Relations: Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, architects, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7+ years as a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer in a Canadian Consulting Firm.
- Minimum 5 years of experience specifically focusing on New Building Construction (complete system design) for mid-to-high-rise residential sectors.
- Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with both AutoCAD and Revit is required. Ability to guide BIM workflows.
- Proven leadership, project management, and team-building capabilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills; strong presentation skills for client meetings.
- Deep understanding of mechanical construction methods, installation technologies, scheduling, and commissioning.
- Mobility: Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for site visits (required).
- Language Asset: Fluency in Mandarin is required.
