The Role:
Reporting to the Manager, Health and Safety the Safety Coordinator will work on a forming project helping with safety documentation, working on compliance, conducting inspections, ensuring regulatory compliance, delivering safety training, and assisting with incident investigations. This role will closely with site supervisors, foremen, workers, subcontractors, and management to ensure all concrete forming operations are performed safely and in accordance with applicable legislation
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and occupational health and safety legislation.
- Monitor concrete forming activities, including formwork installation, shoring, scaffolding, elevated work platforms, excavation work, concrete placement, and material handling operations.
- Ensure workers are using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work procedures.
- Participate in daily pre-task planning meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Safe Work Practices (SWPs), Work Method Statements (WMS), Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), and site-specific safety plans. – Important
- Conduct worker orientations and ensure all employees receive required safety training before commencing work.
- Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain safety documentation, inspection records, training records, incident reports, and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Coordinate and monitor corrective actions arising from inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Liaise with project management, site supervision, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory agencies regarding health and safety matters.
- Monitor compliance with fall protection requirements, confined space procedures, lockout/tagout procedures, traffic management plans, and emergency response plans.
- Assist with workplace inspections conducted by Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC).
- Ensure emergency equipment, first aid supplies, fire extinguishers, and rescue equipment are properly maintained and readily available.
- Promote a positive safety culture and encourage worker participation in health and safety initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Safety, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–4 years of health and safety experience in concrete forming, civil construction, or commercial construction projects. (Recent Graduates can be preferred as well)
- Strong knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation and construction regulations.
- Experience conducting site inspections, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Knowledge of formwork systems, scaffolding, shoring, concrete placement operations, and construction equipment.
- Proficient in the use of construction management and document control platforms, including Site Docs, Procore, and Microsoft SharePoint.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
